Kapanlagi.com - The effort to combat film and digital content piracy in Indonesia enters a new phase. The Indonesian Cyber Media Association (AMSI), the Indonesian Film Agency (BPI), and the Indonesian Video Streaming Association (AVISI) have officially established a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) held in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/7/2026). This collaboration represents a joint commitment to narrow the operational space of piracy sites while supporting the growth of the national creative industry.
The cooperation was signed by AMSI Chairman Wahyu Dhyatmika, BPI Chairman Fauzan Zidni, and AVISI Secretary General Elvira Lestari. Through this agreement, the three organizations agree to build a healthier digital ecosystem by promoting responsible media practices. One of the steps to be implemented is to reduce the dissemination of links, promotions, or news that could potentially direct the public to illegal content provider sites or services.
This collaboration not only targets the creative industry but also aims to raise public awareness about the risks of accessing pirated sites. So far, digital piracy has not only caused losses for copyright owners but has also opened up opportunities for personal data theft, the spread of malware, and other cyber security threats that can harm internet users.
As part of the implementation of this collaboration, AMSI member media will refer to the **Anti-Piracy Ethical Journalism Guidelines (Self-Regulatory Framework)**. Through this guideline, media is expected not only to avoid promoting illegal services but also to actively educate the public about the importance of enjoying films, music, and digital content through official, legal, and safe platforms.
The Chairman of AMSI, Wahyu Dhyatmika, believes that the media has a significant influence in shaping public opinion and the flow of information in the digital space. Therefore, he argues that the media needs to take an active role to ensure that reporting does not become a gateway for the public to access pirated sites.
"AMSI has a significant influence on public opinion and internet traffic. Therefore, we encourage responsible publishing practices by minimizing all forms of reporting or dissemination of links that lead to illegal content services. The media should not be a bridge that leads readers to piracy sites," said Wahyu.
A similar sentiment was expressed by the Chairman of BPI, Fauzan Zidni. He emphasized that the impact of digital piracy is not only felt by companies or streaming service providers but also by all creative workers behind a work. According to him, this collaboration aligns with efforts to strengthen the national creative economy that the government is currently promoting.
"Digital piracy not only harms the Intellectual Property Rights owners of films, music, and streaming videos but also infringes on the moral and economic rights of creators. We want to shift the focus from mere prohibition to real support for national economic resilience," said Fauzan.
In this collaboration, BPI and AVISI will also provide data, research, and various information regarding trends in digital content consumption and the impact of piracy on the creative industry. This data can later be utilized by AMSI member media to produce more comprehensive and educational data-based reports.
Furthermore, AMSI member media is committed to not mentioning the names of platforms, domains, or links from services that have been declared illegal by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI), or BPI. This step is expected to reduce exposure to piracy sites while encouraging the public to switch to official services.
The Secretary General of AVISI, Elvira Lestari, stated that the fight against digital piracy requires the involvement of many parties. According to her, cross-sector collaboration is key to ensuring that the protection of Indonesia's creative works can be more effective.
"Every time the public accesses content through illegal services, it is not just the streaming platforms that suffer, but also the writers, directors, actors, musicians, and all the creative workers behind a work. Therefore, we welcome this collaboration as a concrete step to raise public awareness and strengthen protection for Indonesia's creative industry," said Elvira.
Nevertheless, AMSI, BPI, and AVISI emphasize that this cooperation upholds press freedom and editorial independence. The three organizations have also established a **Content Ethics Review Forum** that is consultative and non-punitive. This forum will serve as a platform for evaluation if there are allegations of violations against the anti-piracy guidelines by AMSI member media, with resolutions still going through the internal mechanisms of the organizations.
