Bukalapak was previously hit by a data breach issue in March 2019. At that time, a hacker with the username Gnosticplayers claimed to have hacked 13 million Bukalapak user accounts and 1.12 million Youthmanual accounts, an Indonesian education and career platform.
The hacker claimed to have sold millions of Bukalapak user accounts on a dark web marketplace called Dream Market. However, Bukalapak immediately denied the claim, stating that no user's personal data was compromised.

Rachmat stated that Bukalapak currently employs a layered system to receive, store, and process user data, including:

3. During usage and processing: Bukalapak closely monitors access, reading, modification, or deletion of data, ensuring proper recording.

Rachmat also emphasized the importance of users taking preventive measures alongside the careful handling of user data.
