The development of technology has indeed made many things easier. However, there are also many who use it for negative purposes. To welcome the Independence Day of Indonesia, Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate invites all elements of the nation to utilize technology together to spread positive spirit.
"This year, we celebrate independence in a slightly different way, but with the same spirit. To protect ourselves and our loved ones, we must continue to maintain health protocols and avoid crowds. Let's take advantage of technology to share the spirit of independence," urged the Minister of Communication and Information.
The Commemoration Ceremony of the Proclamation of Independence in commemoration of the 76th Indonesian Independence Day was held at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday (17/8/2021) morning. Similar to last year, this ceremony was attended by limited guests with strict implementation of health protocols.
The President repeatedly urged that the Covid-19 pandemic has driven society to change, develop new ways, abandon irrelevant old habits, and break through impossibilities.
In line with that, the government also invites the public to celebrate independence from home in a new way. Namely, through virtual celebrations that can avoid crowds in the midst of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. This call has received a positive response from the public, flooding social media with various photos in red and white nuances. Digital frames (twibbons) with the theme of Indonesian Independence Day are widely circulated and make it easier for the public.
Before this moment takes place, the Spokesperson for the Government's Covid-19 Handling, Dr. Reisa Broto Asmoro, also invited the entire community to celebrate the 2021 Indonesian Independence Day at the Digital Indonesia House (RDI) which can be accessed through the website www.rumahdigitalindonesia.id. There are a series of interesting programs that the public can participate in, such as competitions and typical 17th games that can be followed by anyone, anywhere. Not only that, there are also entertainment of art, culture, digital literacy, and local product shopping presented in RDI.
For information, RDI is a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg), the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (Kemenkop UKM). There is also the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek), the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu).
Not only collaboration in RDI, the pandemic has also given birth to various collaborations carried out by the government, the government with the community, and inter-community. The spirit of the Indonesian nation to continue to work together to achieve common goals has become stronger after one and a half years in a pandemic situation. The positive side, there has been a significant strengthening in health behavior and infrastructure and strengthening of national institutions in Indonesia. Awareness, participation, and community cooperation have also strengthened significantly.
Minister Johnny further hopes that the community will continue to work together with the government in efforts to control the Covid-19 pandemic. Proactive attitude, spreading good and true news, supporting vaccination programs, are some small steps that the community can take to help the current situation.
“Let us set an example for each other. No matter how small our efforts are in preventing the spread of the corona virus, it is our struggle against the pandemic. By wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance alone, it is already a struggle for freedom from COVID-19," concluded Minister Johnny.
