National Exam 2020 Officially Canceled Due to the Corona Outbreak, Will Be Replaced with Online Exams?

Kapanlagi.com - Due to the ongoing Corona virus (Covid-19) outbreak in Indonesia, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) and the X Commission of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) have agreed to cancel the National Exam 2020. This decision was made to ensure the protection of students from the outbreak.

The cancellation of the national exam applies to all students, whether at the elementary, junior high, or high school level throughout Indonesia. Considering the increasing spread of Covid-19 and the fact that the national exam was scheduled to take place on March 30, Kemendikbud and the X Commission of DPR took decisive action.

"The spread of the COVID-19 outbreak is predicted to continue until April, so it is not possible for us to force students to gather and take the exam under the threat of the COVID-19 outbreak. Therefore, we agreed to cancel the national exam," said Chairman of the X Commission of DPR RI, Syaiful Huda, as reported by Antara in Jakarta on Tuesday (24/3/2020).

1. Replacement for National Exam

For the replacement of the national exam itself, Huda is still considering several options, one of which is online (remote) exams. However, this option is only applicable if the school is capable.

"We agree that this USBN option can only be done if it is done remotely, because basically we do not want any physical gathering of students in school buildings," he said.

2. Other Options

However, if, for example, the school is unable to conduct online exams, the Ministry of Education and Culture provides another option. Namely, by considering the cumulative value of students' learning in school.

"So later the school will consider the cumulative value reflected in the report card to determine a student's graduation, because all curricular or extracurricular activities of students are documented from the report card," he concluded.
