Viral Covid-19 Patient Attempts to Escape, Here's the Explanation from RSSA Malang

Kapanlagi.com - A Covid-19 patient tried to escape from Saiful Anwar Hospital (RSSA) Malang. The female patient was caught on CCTV before the security and medical team tried to calm her down.

A video of the security personnel attempting to calm down the patient who came out of the Covid-19 isolation room went viral on social media. The video shows a female patient coming out of the Covid-19 patient isolation room.

Director of RSUD Dr Saiful Anwar Malang, Kohar Hari Santoso, confirmed the incident. The incident occurred on Tuesday (14/7) afternoon.

"Currently, the patient in question is undergoing self-isolation," said Kohar Hari Santoso on Wednesday (15/7).

1. Afraid of Not Being Able to Pay

The woman is an isolated patient with confirmed Covid-19 status after giving birth, Sunday (12/7) through a caesarean operation. The patient occupies the RSSA Isolation Room (formerly pavilion/VIP) so the room type is VIP standard.

"With the available facilities, the patient feels that this is beyond her ability if there will be a bill or billing from RSSA," she emphasized.

In addition, the patient's psychological condition is worrying about her children at home, besides the baby who is currently still being treated at RSSA. Because indeed patients in isolation rooms cannot meet anyone.

2. Already Stable

On Tuesday (14/7) around 14.00 WIB, the patient's general condition was declared clinically improved. So it is recommended for self-isolation under the supervision of the local Health Department.

At that time, RSSA immediately contacted the local Health Department for the pickup of the patient. But after receiving permission to go home from the doctor, the patient was impatient.

The woman tried to leave the isolation room by taking the opportunity to escape from the supervision of the officers. At that time, the nurse was in another room taking care of another patient.

However, the patient's attempt to leave the isolation room was detected by the officers via CCTV cameras. So the officers tried to stop her.

"But because she was not wearing complete PPE, the security officers could only warn her verbally and continue to follow her," she explained.

Not long after, an officer with complete PPE finally arrived and approached the patient who had approached an online motorcycle taxi driver. So in that situation, there was a commotion.

"But finally, the patient was persuaded and evacuated to the RSSA isolation room. The evacuation process took about 20 minutes," she explained.

3. Self-Isolation at Home

Around 17.00 WIB, local health officials came and picked up the patient. The patient, whose identity was concealed, will then undergo self-isolation under the supervision of the Health Department.

Kohar also mentioned that the RSSA Isolation Room (formerly Pavilion/VIP) has only been operational for a week. The hospital continues to strive to standardize the facilities in terms of service and security as an isolation room.

Furthermore, the monitoring of entry and exit will be tightened, especially since the entry and exit doors between patients and healthcare workers have been separated. This is to prevent a similar incident from recurring.

The hospital is making efforts to improve effective communication with patients and their families in the Isolation Room. This is to ensure that patients and their families understand the rights and responsibilities of patients while in the Isolation Room related to Covid-19.
