Admits to Idolizing Director Joko Anwar, Baim Wong: Joko Has Different Thoughts Than Us

Kapanlagi.com - Baim Wong is trying his hand at becoming a feature film director. Not holding back, for his directorial debut, he is directly handling a horror genre film.

In preparing himself, Baim has watched many Indonesian horror films. Thus, he knows how far local filmmakers have explored the type of entertainment that the public enjoys.

"Horror is one of the genres that is popular in Asia, especially Indonesia. I have watched all Indonesian horror films. I need to know how far Indonesian films have come. I need to know what differentiates my horror from others," said Baim when met in the Tanah Kusir area, South Jakarta, Thursday (1/8).

1. Having a Different Perspective

Baim Wong also has a director he idolizes. From Hollywood, he idolizes Christopher Nolan, while from Indonesia, it is none other than Joko Anwar. What is the reason Baim idolizes Joko?

"Joko has a different way of thinking than us and he dares to create something different. Among all the horror films I've watched, PENGABDI SETAN is the one I think is great. Even though the story is simple and I know the budget is low, he is clever (in executing it)," said Baim Wong.

2. Sad Because His Work is Bad

Furthermore, Baim Wong mentioned there are other directors he idolizes. However, he admitted to being disappointed with that director because their performance has declined.

"There used to be someone I liked, but now it seems to be declining. I was a fan of him, but I'm sad because his work is bad. It's different when you love someone. When they are bad, we feel sad because we know their quality. It's ruined just because he became a factory," concluded Baim Wong.
