The husband of Paula Verhoeven stated that his interest in trying to be a director stemmed from wanting to try something he had never done before. Baim Wong has just made his debut as a director with the horror film titled LEMBAYUNG.
Interestingly, when deciding to become a director, Baim did not consult with close friends or known filmmakers. Instead, he consulted himself on whether he was capable of holding that position or not.
"Most discussions are with oneself. Because if we want to try something, there are only two possibilities, we will be bullied or praised. I often start new things, and there is always a concern about stepping out of the box, and now I choose to step out. Discussing with myself whether I am afraid or not, whether I am brave or not. But I always push through," said Baim when met in the Tanah Kusir area, South Jakarta, Thursday (1/8).
After becoming a director, Baim Wong said that it is a very heavy job. Especially because he is a perfectionist who always wants to deliver perfection even if it makes him exhausted.
"Being a director is a very exhausting job. You don't know what the preparation is like. As a perfectionist, it is hard for us to lower our standards," Baim Wong revealed.
"When we go down, there are parts of our body that feel uncomfortable. I want everything to be perfect, and that is difficult. I don't know if that's a bad or good trait because for me, it's exhausting," added the father of two.
Admitting to being a perfectionist makes it difficult for Baim Wong to find a work partner. Sometimes he hopes to find someone who is also a perfectionist so they can share the same vision and mission.
"It’s hard to be a perfectionist because we need to be matched with a worker who is also a perfectionist. A perfectionist is someone who works but puts their heart into it, so they want the results to be really good. It’s difficult for me to find someone who has the same passion as I do," concluded Baim Wong.
