Director of the Film SOBAT AMBYAR Tells the Story of the Late Didi Kempot, Reveals His Extraordinary Charisma

This film, SOBAT AMBYAR, is also produced and starred by the late Didi Kempot, 'God Father of Broken Heart'. In addition, this film is directed by two people, Charles Gozali and Bagus Bramanti.

As the director of the film SOBAT AMBYAR, Charles Gozali tells about the late Didi Kempot, he reveals that he had an extraordinary charisma.

"He had an extraordinary charisma, there was a process where Bagus and I were asked to tell 'What am I, what do I do?' and then I thought Mas Bagus, who is from Solo and is fluent in Javanese, could do it. But then Bagus said to me, 'Why do I feel nervous and unable to speak?' So it was incredibly chaotic at that time," said Charles Gozali, the director of the film SOBAT AMBYAR, during the Roundtable Film SOBAT AMBYAR event, (12/1) the day before yesterday.

1. Meeting Didi Kempot: The Next Step

Furthermore, Charles Gozali recounted at length during the production of the film SOBAT AMBYAR. According to him, meeting Didi Kempot before his passing was a significant step because Charles Gozali was one of Didi Kempot's fans.

"There's another issue about time, which was very tight even though we wanted to produce the best results, so the consideration was the time-consuming image delivery. Many things happened. Maybe I'll choose the shortest one. Here it is, from me and, I think I represent Bagus here and many friends personally. The opportunity to meet Didi Kempot is rare, even one of the investors of the Film Sobat Ambyar joined for only one reason, to take a photo with Didi Kempot", Charles Gozali said.

"Vino G Bastian entrusted me with a t-shirt or poster with a signature from Didi Kempot for Wiro Sableng. It's extraordinary for those who idolize him. Well, because time is very limited, so honestly, because we're the captains on the field, we can't, we have to make sure that everything is as good as possible with this very limited time", he added.

2. Struggling Can Take Photos Together

Furthermore, Charles told the story of his struggle to be able to take a photo with the late Didi Kempot, where previously Charles really wanted to take a photo with the producer of the film SOBAT AMBYAR.

"So honestly, the desire to take a photo with Mas Didi had never been fulfilled until finally on the last day we met Mas Didi, and Mas Didi said he wanted to go home while we were still shooting. So finally, at that time, with determination, I said during the shoot when everyone was shouting 'Okay, Take!', I said 'Okay'. When the action started, suddenly I pulled Bagus, Bagus said 'Where are you going, where are you going?', Come on, let's go quickly, or else we'll regret it later. Then I pulled him out, I took him and we ran out. We ran out all the way to the parking lot. It was because Mas Didi was going to get in the car, and I said 'Uncle, Uncle, just a moment, let's take a photo with you. Just once.' said Charles Gozali.

"Others were shooting over there, and we were in front taking a photo. After it was finished, 'Oh, thank you, see you later' and so on." That's good, don't pull it in again. Once we arrived and sat down, we looked at the monitor and then asked about the photography record, 'should we cut it?' Okay. So, in my opinion, it was almost good, but just to be safe, I said it again in case there's a problem. 'Okay, let's take it again.' Actually, we only ran for a photo with Mas Didi and luckily it's one of the good photos that both of us have with Mas Didi, me and Bagus. I didn't even talk to Bagus, I just pulled him. So, for me personally, Mas Didi's aura is that great,' he added.

3. Feeling Nervous

As fellow directors, Bagus Bramanti also felt nervous when meeting the late Didi Kempot. He was also reprimanded during the production of the movie SOBAT AMBYAR for dancing to Didi Kempot's song.

"No one added anything because it was indeed a significant moment. Directing someone whose charisma is superior to ours, that's the feeling of nervousness," said Bagus Bramanti.

"And one more thing, if I may share, during the concert scene, I was reprimanded by Mas Charles because I was supposed to monitor, but instead, I was dancing. And I am grateful because I didn't know when I could dance again after that," he continued.

Bagus Bramanti also captured the moment by taking a photo with the late Didi Kempot and Charles Gozali on his Instagram. He also wrote a caption expressing his meeting with Didi Kempot at that time.

"This is my meeting with Pakde Didi Kempot during the shooting process of #SobatAmbyarFilm in mid-February. Without his songs, maybe I would never have had a chance to become a director. Sobat Ambyar is the first film I directed. Together with Mas @charlesgozali, who is also a director, we worked on #SobatAmbyarFilm with love throughout the process. The departure of Lord Didi today truly made my heart ambyar. Farewell, Lord Didi. Thank you for the best meetings we have ever had.
