Fariz RM Resigned to Facing 6 Years in Prison for Drugs, Although Still Hoping for Rehabilitation

The pivotal chapter in the fate of legendary musician Fariz RM resumed at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday (21/8/2025). In the rebuttal hearing concerning the alleged drug abuse case that ensnared him, this Indonesian music maestro expressed his deepest hopes, while also demonstrating a resigned and noble attitude in facing the judge's gavel.

Before the panel of judges, the singer of the song Barcelona sincerely reaffirmed his desire to continue the recovery process through rehabilitation. For him, this is the best way to free himself from the grip of narcotics that have affected him several times.

"Although my hope, of course, is that if I am given the opportunity to continue rehabilitation, that would be my hope," said Fariz RM.

The husband of Oneng Diana Riyadini stated that he is ready to accept any legal decision that will be imposed on him. He sees the punishment as an opportunity from God to introspect.

"I want to return to society, back to the embrace of my family, return to activities as a better person, God willing," he said with hope.

"I am ready to go through it. The important thing is to accept all punishment as long as the punishment is indeed in accordance with the facts," he asserted, if the court decides he must serve time behind bars.

Fariz RM's mature attitude is reinforced by his lawyer, Deolipa Yumara. In her rebuttal, Deolipa maintains the key argument that her client is a victim of addiction, not a dealer who should be heavily punished.

"He should be rehabilitated, not punished. We have hoped for this, and it has been conveyed as well," said Deolipa. She added that the prosecution is now fully leaving the decision to the judge, which she considers a positive signal.

"Well, the agenda later is that on September 4, a decision will be made regarding Fariz RM, whether he should be punished or undergo rehabilitation," said Deolipa. Fariz's resignation is faced with a heavy demand from the Public Prosecutor (JPU) who wants him sentenced to 6 years in prison and a fine of Rp 800 million.
