Ferry Irawan Regarding KPI's Prohibition on Domestic Violence Perpetrators Appearing on Television, Human Rights Seek Livelihood

As known, Ferry Irawan has officially been released after receiving remission on the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day. Ferry Irawan admitted that he now wants to focus on his family and calm himself down after seven years in Class IIA Kediri Penitentiary, East Java.

"First, I want to calm myself down, focus on my family, and then, of course, I want to take care of my own life first. I also focus on my career, focus on work, and organize my life for the better," said Ferry Irawan when met in the Tendean area, South Jakarta, on Monday (21/8/2023).

1. Ferry's Right to Earn a Living

However, on the other hand, the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) has issued a recommendation to television and radio stations not to provide space for domestic violence perpetrators. Regarding this matter, Jeffry Simatupang, Ferry Irawan's legal representative, stated that his client has the right to earn a living, including appearing on television.

"I remind you that Mr. Ferry has the human right to seek employment, to earn a living. Therefore, no one can obstruct someone's human rights," said Jeffry Simatupang on the same occasion.

2. Ferry Protected by the Constitution

Jeffry added that there is no decision from the Kediri District Court Judge that revokes Ferry Irawan's human rights. As a citizen, Ferry is protected by the Constitution to earn a living.

"Once again, I repeat, there is no court decision that revokes Mr. Ferry's human rights. Therefore, as an Indonesian citizen, Mr. Ferry is protected by the Constitution. One of which is the right to earn a living that cannot be obstructed," said Jeffry.

3. Confident that Ferry will be Accepted by the Community Again

Jeffry is confident that Ferry's return will be well received by the community with his new works.

"Let time be the one to answer later, let's just wait. Let time continue to move forward, I am confident that Mr. Ferry will return to the community and be accepted well with his new works," said Jeffry Simatupang.

As is known, Ferry Irawan was detained for domestic violence reported by Venna Melinda since January 16, 2023. Ferry Irawan was sentenced to 1 year in prison by the Judges' Panel of the Kediri Court in May 2023. After 7 months in prison, Ferry Irawan applied for parole as he had served 2/3 of his detention period.
