Maia Estianty and Mey Chan Nostalgia 'Moving Hotels' Every Day

The reunion of Maia Estianty and Mey Chan on the stage of Indosiar's anniversary brings back memories of the past. Both recall the glory days of Duo Maia when their performance schedule was so packed that they had to move cities every day.

Mey Chan recounts how she often felt like she was experiencing déjà vu when waking up in a hotel. The incredible busyness sometimes made them forget which city they were in.

"Going back to when we were young, it’s like remembering, how could we work two shows when we were still young, right? We had so much energy. Waking up meant moving hotels. So while half-asleep, I’d be like, where am I? Oh, Medan. Tomorrow we move hotels again for another job. Waking up, how does this work? Surabaya," reminisces Mey Chan with a laugh.

Maia confirmed the story. She was amazed by their stamina at that time, capable of touring dozens of cities non-stop. However, she realized that their physical condition is no longer as strong as it used to be.

"How could it be that when I remember, we were younger back then, wow, it was exhausting. Sometimes when talking to Mom, we could do it, right Mom? Touring 40 cities, moving to a new city every day. Those memories are sweet, though," Maia added.

Now, Maia and Mey Chan choose to pursue their careers at a more relaxed pace. They make work a fun hobby, no longer a burden just to earn money.

"So now I focus more on that, working more relaxed, right? It's not like working just to earn money. It's more like a hobby. So it's really fun, something that when singing, it goes on and on, moving to another city, flying, coming back tired from singing, sound check," Maia explained.

Mey Chan added that she needs a new challenge in her life. Meeting new people and seeing them succeed is a satisfaction for her, which she finds when being a judge or mentor.

"The routine has become boring. I need a new challenge, so it's really like when being a judge, you meet new people continuously. So then when they succeed, it’s more challenging. That makes me happy," concluded Mey Chan.
