Olivia Rodrigo Speaks Candidly About Hearing Impairment, Turns Out Her Left Ear Has Been Problematic Since Kindergarten

In an interview with KISS FM UK, the singer of Deja Vu revealed that she has been experiencing hearing impairment in her left ear. Interestingly, Olivia chose to discuss this condition casually and with humor.

This confession quickly became a topic of conversation, especially since many fans are just learning that the 23-year-old singer has been living with this condition since she was in kindergarten.

The moment began when KISS FM UK host, Tyler West, asked a question inspired by one of the songs from her new album, What's Wrong with Me?. Instead of giving a serious answer, Olivia Rodrigo responded with a surprising joke that shocked many.

"There’s a lot wrong with me. I’m actually 60 percent deaf in my left ear," Olivia revealed.

Even while discussing her personal health condition, Olivia appeared relaxed and even made it a subject of humor.

"So, if you’re sitting on this side of me [pointing to her left side] and trying to tell me a secret, I can’t understand what you’re saying. So, if you want to tell me a secret, just sit on my right, okay?" the 23-year-old woman continued while laughing.

It turns out this is not the first time Olivia Rodrigo has spoken about her hearing impairment. Previously, she also discussed this in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023.

On that occasion, Olivia explained that she only discovered the condition during a health check at school when she was little.

"It's a bit unusual. My left ear is partially deaf. I didn't know until kindergarten when they did tests on all the kids, and they said, 'Oh, you are a bit deaf'," Olivia Rodrigo explained.

Interestingly, she admitted that she often jokes about the condition with a friend who has a visual impairment but works as a photographer.

"So we always joke that I make music because my hearing is bad, and she takes photos because her vision is bad."

3. Olivia Rodrigo Responds to Criticism of Her Stage Performance

In addition to discussing her health condition, Olivia Rodrigo also recently responded to public criticism regarding her appearance in Billions Club Live with Olivia Rodrigo: A Concert Film.

At that time, some people criticized the babydoll dress she wore. The performance was deemed by some to present a childish image while also being considered to contain elements of sexualization. In a podcast with The New York Times, Olivia admitted to feeling disturbed by the criticisms directed at her.

"It really upset me," complained Olivia Rodrigo.

She stated that she did not understand the reasons behind the criticism, especially since the outfit she wore was seen as an issue.

"What really bothers me is that I have worn outfits that might be revealing on stage," said Olivia Rodrigo.

According to Olivia, the criticism actually highlights the persistence of certain viewpoints that place the responsibility on women for how they are perceived by others.

"Also, there is rhetoric that has been fed to us since we were little, which is don’t dress like that because there are men who will sexualize you and that’s your fault. It’s so weird," expressed Olivia Rodrigo.
