Rhoma Irama Donates 100 Million Amid Ikke Nurjanah's Struggle Over Dangdut Singer Royalties

The National Collective Management Institution (LMKN) has reportedly not disbursed royalty rights for the year 2025. This has triggered significant unrest among musicians, especially those gathered under the Collective Management Institution of Anugrah Royalti Dangdut Indonesia (ARDI).

This concern arises due to a new distribution pattern implemented by the fourth term commissioners of LMKN. Normally, royalties for the period from January to June 2025 should have been disbursed by August 2025, while those for the period from July to December 2025 should be disbursed no later than January 2026. However, to date, no funds have flowed to the holders of rights related to dangdut music.

Ikke Nurjanah, as the Chairperson of ARDI, stated that this policy change is very detrimental. Typically, the royalties received by ARDI in a year can reach Rp 1 to 1.5 billion. However, with the new calculation system from LMKN that uses proxy data or usage data, that amount has sharply dropped to only Rp 25,063,346. In fact, dangdut music is played extensively in various sectors such as cafes, restaurants, and even malls.

"This marginalizes dangdut. We all know that there are TV channels that have dangdut programs all day long, even going viral. Social media has repeatedly made dangdut music go viral," said Ikke Nurjanah.

"Not to mention the events that often use dangdut as a display element. We need transparency in valid data sources when stating that such a value is a right that ARDI members deserve to receive," added Ikke Nurjanah.

1. Hoping for Improvement

Ikke also added that the current data usage system owned by LMKN does not yet represent the overall use of works. As a result, many royalties cannot be claimed by the rights holders. She hopes for improvements in data collection to cover a wider area.

"The source of proxy data should be expanded to include entertainment stages, dangdut cafes, and even wedding stages where dangdut segmentation exists, so that the artists have the opportunity to receive more appropriate royalties," said Ikke Nurjanah.

Seeing this concerning condition, the King of Dangdut Rhoma Irama showed his concern. He personally donated IDR 100,000,000 to assist LMK RAI and ARDI members who were affected. Rhoma hopes that the management of royalties in Indonesia in the future can be more transparent and truly pay attention to the welfare of the artists.

"Essentially, the management of royalties is not just about how to collect and distribute royalties, but what is far more important is how to ensure the welfare of the artists involved. It is important to underline that laws are made not only to protect the interests of people in city centers or only popular artists," said Rhoma Irama.
