Without Mpok Alpa, Aji Darmaji Admits His Family's Eid Feels Incomplete

Ramadan and Eid in 2026 mark a new chapter full of challenges for Aji Darmaji. The loss of Mpok Alpa has caused the family tradition, which usually feels complete, to undergo many changes.

Aji feels that there is a sense of incompleteness in every worship routine and togetherness they are experiencing now.

The presence of a mother and wife is crucial in managing all family needs during Ramadan. Aji recounts how he has to work hard to appear strong for his children, even though inside he feels deeply affected.

"Alhamdulillah, today I am in good health, well, and fasting all three of them," said Aji Darmaji when met in the Warung Buncit area, South Jakarta, Tuesday (17/3/2026).

Although trying to live a normal life, Aji cannot deceive the feeling of loneliness that haunts his soul. He feels that many things have been lost since Mpok Alpa is no longer with them, from the dining atmosphere to daily interactions.

"So, there’s something missing because the late one is not here," Aji said while describing the differences he feels.

Aji also reminisces about the Eid traditions from previous years that were always filled with visits to neighbors and relatives. Although this year's main plan is to visit his wife's grave, he still strives to maintain the relationship with the surrounding community.

"The first Lebaran tradition is that we visit the graves of the deceased's father and mother usually," said Aji.

"After finishing the visit with family, we usually go to visit neighbors, relatives, and such. So, it's a tradition of asking for forgiveness among neighbors, family, and relatives," he added.
