"Well, it's been almost a year already. Because cassation takes longer than an appeal, you know," said Wati Trisnawati, the legal counsel for Teddy Pardiyana in a virtual interview.
Wati explained that at the cassation level, there will no longer be face-to-face hearings as there were in previous courts. The Supreme Court judges will only review documents and legal aspects without considering new facts from the field.

This examination aims to see whether the decision of the Bandung Religious High Court is in accordance with the law or not. Therefore, both parties do not need to be present to provide testimony in person.
"So there will be no more factual legal examinations. Well, for the cassation process, there will be no trials," said Wati Trisnawati.
The main reason for filing a cassation usually relates to allegations of judges exceeding their authority in deciding cases. This will later be proven through the documents submitted by the cassation applicant.
"So it’s more about examining whether there was indeed an overreach of authority or not at the time of the decision of the Bandung Religious High Court. So that's more of the reason," she said.
The Supreme Court itself has a very heavy case load every year. That is why the cassation decision related to the heirs is predicted not to be released in a short time.
"The examination does take quite a long time. Because there are many cases entering the Supreme Court," said Wati.
