Ruben Onsu Named Suspect, Here’s Why Police Have Not Made an Arrest Yet

The suspect status assigned to Ruben Onsu in the case of alleged fraud worth billions of rupiah has become a public focus. Many are questioning why there has not been a detention of him until now. In response to this, the Head of Public Relations of the South Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Joko Adiwibowo, provided an explanation regarding the stages of the legal process that Ruben Onsu is currently undergoing after being designated as a suspect.

"Of course, he will be interrogated first as a suspect. Whether or not an arrest will be made afterwards depends on the investigation process," he explained when met at the South Jakarta Police on Wednesday (26/8).

1. The Legal Process is Still Ongoing

The statement emphasizes that the detention decision is not an automatic consequence of the suspect status determination. It depends on the developments of the ongoing investigation process. Regarding the basis for the suspect status determination, the investigator mentioned that the elements of evidence required by law have been met, although the material details cannot be disclosed to the public.

"That is the investigative material, and it has certainly been fulfilled. It cannot be disclosed," he added.

2. Official Summons Has Been Issued

In another development, the legal process against Ruben Onsu is also marked by the issuance of an official summons by the police. The examination schedule is set for Friday, August 28, 2026. On the other hand, efforts for resolution through mediation have also emerged after the legal counsel of one party submitted a power of attorney for assistance to the investigator this week. Nevertheless, the investigation process continues without being influenced by the possibility of a peaceful resolution.

The public is now awaiting the continuation of this legal process, especially regarding the steps that will be taken by the investigator after the examination schedule for Ruben Onsu next weekend. The possibility of detention remains a big question mark among the community.
