Sekar Arum Widara Former Actress Arrested by Police for Circulating Counterfeit Money of Rp223 Million

Kapanlagi.com - Unit III Ranmor of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Sat Reskrim) of the South Jakarta Metro Police successfully uncovered a counterfeit money circulation case in the Lippo Mall Kemang area. A woman with the initials S.A.W., who is known to be a former soap opera actress, was apprehended after being caught using counterfeit money to shop at several stores in the shopping center.

The arrest took place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at around 21:00 WIB, by a team led by Ranmor Unit Head IPTU Teddy Rohendi, SH, accompanied by Operational Sub-Unit Head IPDA Faisal Khasbi Alaeya, SH, and Inspection Sub-Unit Head IPTU Endra Budi Argana, S.E.

The suspect, whose full name is Sekar Arum Widara, born in Bogor, November 2, 1984, was once recognized by the public through various roles in the Indonesian entertainment industry in the 2000s. However, she now has to face the law after being strongly suspected of being involved in the circulation of counterfeit money.

1. Chronology of the Arrest

This case began when the suspect conducted a transaction at a Hypermart outlet using Rp100,000,- banknotes that were suspected to be counterfeit. The transaction managed to pass the cashier's inspection. However, when attempting to shop again at a different cashier, the money used was checked with a UV light detector and was found to be counterfeit. The transaction was immediately canceled.

Not stopping there, the suspect continued his actions at another store, AZ.KO. He handed over 11 pieces of Rp100,000,- banknotes to the cashier. After inspection, the money was again declared counterfeit. The store's security personnel immediately detained the suspect and reported him to the mall's security. After it was discovered that he had conducted similar transactions at several other stores in the mall, the incident was reported to the police.

As a result of the arrest, the police seized evidence in the form of 2,235 pieces of counterfeit Rp100,000,- banknotes with a total value of Rp223,500,000,-, one unit of iPhone 11 Pro Max, and one unit of Xiaomi Redmi phone.

2. Charged Under the Currency Counterfeiting Law

The South Jakarta Metro Police Chief, through investigators, stated that the suspect will be charged under Article 26 paragraph (2) and (3) in conjunction with Article 36 paragraph (2) and (3) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency, as well as Articles 244 and/or 245 of the Penal Code regarding currency counterfeiting.

“The handling of this case is a manifestation of our commitment to eradicate crimes that harm the community economically. We urge the public to be more meticulous when receiving cash, especially in transactions at shopping centers,” said one of the investigators.

Sekar Arum Widara is currently undergoing intensive questioning at the South Jakarta Metro Police to delve into the motives and the possibility of other networks involved in the circulation of counterfeit money.
