Vadel Badjideh Ready to Pursue Cassation After Appeal is Rejected and Sentence Increased to 12 Years

The latest news comes from the legal case involving Vadel Badjideh. This young dancer's attempt to obtain a lighter sentence through the appeal process has instead resulted in a heavier ruling than before. The DKI Jakarta High Court decided to increase Vadel's sentence related to the case involving Laura Meizani alias Lolly.

Not remaining silent in the face of this burdensome ruling, Vadel Badjideh's side quickly took action. The convicted party in the case of sexual intercourse and abortion stated his readiness to continue legal steps to a higher level, namely filing a cassation with the Supreme Court (MA).

Certainty regarding the next legal steps was conveyed directly by Vadel's legal counsel, Oya Abdul Malik. He assured that they would not simply accept the appellate decision and are currently preparing the cassation memorandum, which is planned to be submitted next week in Jakarta.

"On the 25th (of November) I will submit the cassation memorandum, yes (to respond to Vadel's appeal)," said Oya Abdul Malik when contacted by the media crew on Saturday (22/11/2025).

As a flashback, at the first-instance court, Vadel Badjideh was initially sentenced to 9 years in prison by the South Jakarta District Court. The sentence was handed down for the case of sexual intercourse and abortion involving Nikita Mirzani's daughter, Lolly. Feeling that the sentence was too harsh, Vadel's side then filed an appeal in hopes of obtaining leniency.

However, that hope was dashed after the DKI Jakarta High Court issued a different ruling. Instead of lightening the sentence, the appellate judge decided to increase Vadel's prison sentence to 12 years. In addition to the prison term, Vadel is also required to pay a fine of Rp 1 billion.

The cassation step currently taken is a legal effort to annul the ruling of the last court level. Vadel's side hopes that the Supreme Court can review this case and provide a ruling that is considered fairer for their client.

With the cassation filed, the legal process of this public attention-grabbing case is sure to continue until a ruling is issued by the Supreme Court.
