Deep sorrow envelops the extended family of Quraish Shihab over the passing of Ibrahim Sjarief Assegaf, the husband of Najwa Shihab, on Tuesday (20/5/2025). Baim Wong was one of the public figures who attended the wake at the funeral home in the Jeruk Purut area, South Jakarta.

Baim's presence was not without reason. He revealed that his family has a long-standing relationship with the Quraish Shihab family, especially since his late father was close to Quraish when he served as Minister of Religious Affairs.

"I am more towards... my dad was close to Mr. Quraish, back when Mr. Quraish was the Minister of Religious Affairs, they were very close. Eventually got to know Nana and others. So, since I was little... The deceased was also named Baim, and it was once said, 'the name is the same.' So, I represent the family, my dad is no longer here," said Baim.

However, on that occasion, Baim was not able to meet directly with Quraish Shihab. He stated that when he arrived, the prominent religious figure was resting.

"Earlier I wanted to meet Mr. Quraish, but Mr. Quraish is resting, I met with others instead," he said.

Baim mentioned that he is quite worried about the condition of Quraish Shihab, who is of advanced age. He fears that deep sorrow will affect the health of the scholar.

"I am more concerned about how he is doing now, I asked earlier, Abi how is he? I’m afraid of being shocked, because of his age," he revealed.

He also postponed the direct meeting until Quraish Shihab's condition is more stable and he is ready to receive guests.

Baim also reminisced about the moments he spent with Najwa and Ibrahim's family, and learned a lot from the way they maintain relationships within their large family.

"It looks like 10 families. He has different connections, meaning his house also has 11 plots in front, behind, and there are no fences, so we meet every day, and I learn a lot from them," explained Baim.

In addition, Baim expressed his empathy towards Najwa and Ibrahim's child, who is now without a father figure. He hopes everyone will pray for them to be given strength.

"The one who is most pitiful is actually the child, let's just pray for them," said Baim.

Although there hasn't been a chance to talk directly with Quraish Shihab, Baim's presence is a form of solidarity and respect for the late figure who was known to be very kind.
