Wedding Dowry Becomes a New Issue in Chikita Meidy's Divorce Hearing

An unusual demand from the husband of Chikita Meidy, Indra Aditya, who requested the return of the wedding dowry, became the main focus in their divorce hearing. Chikita Meidy's side firmly rejected the request as it was deemed to lack legal basis and contrary to Islamic teachings, following the hearing at the Tigaraksa Religious Court on Tuesday (7/10/2025).

Yassirni, as Chikita Meidy's legal counsel, questioned the legal basis for the request to return the dowry. According to her, under Islamic law, asking for the dowry that has already been given to the wife is considered a sinful act.

"The question is, what is the basis for asking for the dowry money back? What is the basis? Where is it that after getting married, the dowry is asked to be returned? Where is the legal evidence for that? Under Islamic law alone, there is none; it is unlawful to ask for the dowry back," said Yassirni after the hearing.

Vebby Fretania, another legal counsel, also reinforced the argument by referring to the Compilation of Islamic Law.

She stated that the dowry is the absolute right of a wife and cannot be contested by anyone, including her husband.

"If I may add, even for the dowry itself, it is clear in the Compilation of Islamic Law that the dowry is the right of women, the wife, you know. It is the wife's right, that is absolute, the wife's right," said Vebby Fretania.

When confirmed about Indra's claim that the dowry was sold with mutual consent to buy a house, Chikita Meidy gave a surprising answer. She strongly denied the claim and accused Indra of stealing her dowry.

"No. I've been asked that question multiple times. Yes, shouldn't it be answered? Yes, you asked last week, and now you're asking again. It needs to be understood that the dowry was stolen," said Chikita.

Yassirni also supported her client's statement by recalling the moment when Chikita opened her safe, which turned out to be empty, leaving only the umbilical cord of her child.

"We have all seen it together, Mrs. Chikita Meidy opened the safe. The remaining contents are Jevier's umbilical cord," concluded Yassirni.
