'ANGKARA MURKA' Becomes the Debut Film of Eden Junjung, Presenting Horror Terror and Social Critique, Premiere on May 22, 2025

The psychological horror film ANGKARA MURKA is ready to shake up cinemas across Indonesia starting May 22, 2025. Directed by Eden Junjung, this is his feature film debut after previously being known for short works such as Happy Family, Bura, and The Intrusion, which received recognition at various international film festivals.

Combining horror tension with social realism, ANGKARA MURKA tells the story of Ambar (Raihaanun), a young mother who desperately works in a sand mine to search for her mysteriously missing husband.

Together with Lukman (Simhala Avadana), she faces unseen forces that guard the mining land and attempts to uncover the practices of sacrifices and oppressive power. This film promises an emotional and thrilling experience that is rarely found in local horror. Here are the details.

A lineup of top actors strengthens this film, such as Whani Darmawan as the fierce Raden Broto, and Rukman Rosadi. More than just presenting terror, ANGKARA MURKA offers a strong narrative about human greed and social wounds passed down through generations.

"Through this film, we combine terror, emotion, and social critique into a unique cinematic experience. The story is close to reality, but speaks in a cinematic language that anyone can enjoy," said producer Ifa Isfansyah when met at XXI Epicentrum on Thursday (24/4).

This film will also have its world premiere at the Far East Film Festival (FEFF) 2025 in Udine, Italy, on April 30, and will compete in the category of White Mulberry Award for Best Debut Feature. This is a significant step for Eden Junjung as a young filmmaker who bravely brings local stories to the international stage.

In his creative process, Eden draws inspiration from his childhood filled with myths and fears. "I grew up at the foot of a mountain that was said to be inhabited by demons, but over time I realized that the fear was deliberately instilled to silence. The slope that was said to be haunted turned out to be an illegal mining field. That is the real horror," said Eden Junjung.

Produced by Forka Films—a production house previously known as Fourcolours Films—ANGKARA MURKA proves that Indonesian horror films can present a bold and socially relevant approach. Forka Films is known for acclaimed films such as Siti, Yuni, Before, Now & Then (Nana), and the series Cigarettes Girl.

Forka Films' commitment to supporting the diversity of Indonesian cinema and nurturing new talent is once again realized through this film. With a strong vision and high production quality, ANGKARA MURKA proves that local horror can convey important messages without losing its entertainment value.
