A heartfelt expression written by Mommy ASF on the social networking site Facebook went viral in 2019. Knowing this, Manoj Punjabi, the producer of MD Entertainment, immediately bought the adaptation rights.

Initially, the story was supposed to be adapted for the big screen. Due to the pandemic, Manoj and his creative team changed the film concept into a series.

"Originally, this was already a screenplay for a feature film. But we eventually turned it into a series. I persuaded Reza to join and he said 'I'm in'. If that's the case, it means he likes the story," said Manoj when interviewed at his office some time ago.

The story of Layangan Putus initially had a religious-themed household story. However, when it was transformed into an audiovisual form, Manoj Punjabi made it more universal by removing certain religious attributes.

"Why not take a religious angle, I want it to be more universal. Behind the scenes, we had a debate about which angle to take because MD is already known for religious dramas, this time we want it to be more modern," explained Manoj.

"When brought by WeTV, this story can be relatable in the world without bringing religion. So, any religion can relate to the story of an affair drama. I want the market to be wider," added the founder of MD Entertainment production house.

3. Not Forcing Adult Scenes

In the ten-episode series, there are several sex scenes performed by the actors. MD Entertainment and WeTV revealed that they did not include adult scenes randomly.

"We don't force adult scenes. We didn't intentionally create them to attract attention. But this story is very relevant to certain scenes. And we didn't cross the line, it is justified by the storyline. And Kang Benny Setiawan as the director made it with smooth and classy artistry," said Lesley Simpson, country head manager of WeTV.

4. Manoj Punjabi Annoyed by Wife

Reza Rahadian is revealed as the favorite actor of Shania Punjabi, who is the wife of Manoj Punjabi. When Manoj invited Reza to be involved in this series, the producer immediately faced the wrath of his wife.

"Mr. Manoj has annoyed his wife ha ha ha. Mrs. Shania got upset after watching LAYANGAN PUTUS. She said, 'Why did you make my favorite actor like this?'," said Reza.

5. Putri Marino Bears Heavy Burden

Meanwhile, Putri Marino admitted that she was so emotionally involved when portraying the main female character named Kinan. The burden borne by Kinan felt so heavy. Fortunately, there were actors and a director who supported her during the nearly two months of shooting.

"For me personally, carrying the burden of the character that I had to portray for 45 days of shooting was very emotional. But I have an incredible support system. There is the director, Mas Reza, and other cast members who helped me give my best. So even though it was difficult, it was done calmly," said Putri.

6. Changing Scenes

Being so emotionally involved in the storyline, Reza Rahadian and Putri Marino even argued with the creative team. As a result, there were scenes that were changed to suit the character's condition.

"Reza and Putri had a debate with the creative team. They were emotional about the story. Finally, we changed the ending," concluded Manoj.
