Film 'MARNI THE STORY OF WEWE GOMBEL' Combines Horror and Action: Want to See How it is Visualized Physically?

Kapanlagi.com - RA Pictures production house, in collaboration with Legacy Pictures, has made a new breakthrough in their latest work titled MARNI THE STORY OF WEWE GOMBEL. The film claims to be a new genre in Indonesia.

MARNI THE STORY OF WEWE GOMBEL combines two genres, namely horror and action, which are still rare in the Indonesian film industry. For the action scenes, the film collaborates with Uwais Team owned by Iko Uwais.

1. Hantu Wewe Gombel Can Fight

According to Billy Christian, the director, usually in a horror film, the ghost is defeated with prayers. This time, something different is done because the ghost called Wewe Gombel in this film can fight.

"The idea emerged when we realized that we were trying to interpret that in the spiritual battle between supernatural beings and the religious figure, we would never see them physically fight," said Billy at XXI Plaza Indonesia, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (28/3/2024).

"So this is our interpretation of what the inner battle would look like if it were to be manifested physically. In the film, it's more about reciting mantras, which represents the spiritual battle, but here we want to show how it would be visualized physically," added Billy.

2. Having Special Attraction

Meanwhile, Producer Fransen Susanto said that the name Wewe Gombel is already well-known and has a special attraction. Moreover, the horror element in this film is combined with action.

"Regarding Wewe Gombel, we know it's a big IP. Wewe Gombel is a legend. Talking about this concept, it's a story about a mother's love for her child," said Fransen after the launch of the poster for MARNI THE STORY OF WEWE GOMBEL.

3. There Are Many Challenges

Amanda Rigby, one of the actors in the film, expressed her happiness for being involved. Especially during the shooting process, she encountered many challenges because it was her first time acting in the horror genre.

This film also stars Ismi Melinda, Hannah Al Rashid, Athar Barakbah, Reza Hilman, Frislly Herlind, Shareefa Dhaanis, Mathias Muchus, Djenar Maesa Ayu, Roy Marten, Voland Humonggio, and many more. The film is planned to be released in June 2024 in Indonesian cinemas.

"It's quite tiring but enjoyable, especially with a highly experienced and professional team," said Amanda.

"I want to act in a horror action film, I've never done it before. I've done thrillers, dramas, and comedies. I want to try something that challenges myself," continued Amanda Rigby.
