Indonesian filmmakers have once again achieved success in international film events. This time, the team behind the film YUNI, directed by Kamila Andini, is proud. Yuni successfully brings home an award from one of the prestigious film events in the world, the Toronto International Film Festival 2021. This is the story of YUNI's success!
YUNI is a film that discusses teenage issues with finesse and humor. This film has won the Platform Prize at TIFF 2021, an annual award for films that are considered to have high artistic value and demonstrate strong directorial vision.
Yuni's victory was announced by one of the judges, Riz Ahmed. Riz mentioned that the jury team was touched by YUNI's film story, which has a fresh perspective on teenage stories. Riz also praised YUNI's excellent cinematography.
Director Kamila Andini herself received the award at TIFF 2021. Kamila, who couldn't believe in this victory, said that YUNI's success could be a hope for the voice of Indonesian women.
YUNI itself has previously participated in several festivals such as the Vancouver International Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival.
YUNI tells the story of Yuni (played by Arawinda Kirana), a smart girl who wants to pursue higher education but becomes the subject of gossip when she rejects two marriage proposals. According to myth, if a woman rejects two proposals, she will never get married.
YUNI finished shooting before the COVID-19 pandemic hit Indonesia. Post-production work was carried out during the pandemic.
In addition to directing, Kamila also co-wrote the screenplay with Prima Rusdi. The film editing was entrusted to Lee Chatameikool from Thailand.
