Ministry of Education and Culture Shows Commitment to Bring Indonesian Films to the International Stage

Kapanlagi.com - Another positive achievement has been made by the Indonesian film industry. Indonesia is confirmed to participate in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, reaffirming Indonesia's commitment to promote its film and television industry internationally.

The event will include various activities such as the Indonesia Pavilion, Networking Events, Panel Discussion, and Market Screening with the theme 'Discover Indonesia', designed to introduce the cultural richness of Indonesia and support the growth of the domestic creative industry.

This is certainly welcomed by Ahmad Mahendra, the Director of Film, Music, and Media at the Directorate General of Culture, Ministry of Education, Research, and Technology (Ministry of Education and Culture).

"We appreciate and will support through various initiatives such as the Indonesia Pavilion, Networking Events, Panel Discussion, and Market Screening 'Discover Indonesia'. This is the result of collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, as well as the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency," said Ahmad Mahendra.

1. Indonesia Will Participate in Many International Film Festivals

However, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center is not the only event that Indonesia is participating in. According to Mahendra, there will be many international film festivals that Indonesia will also participate in the future.

"This participation is only a small part of the broader efforts made by the Ministry of Education and Culture to globalize Indonesian films. This year, Indonesia will also participate in several larger-scale international film festivals, including the Udine Far East Film Festival, Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, and Busan International Film Festival. The presence in various festivals reaffirms Indonesia's commitment to strengthen its position in the global film market," he added.

2. Create New Opportunities for Indonesian Filmmakers in the Global Market

According to data from the Directorate of Film, Music, and Media, Indonesia achieved excellent results in 2023, with 50 films showcased in 24 international film festivals in 18 countries. This achievement not only demonstrates wider recognition of the quality of Indonesian films but also confirms Indonesia's position as a strong competitor in the global film market.

This is also acknowledged by Vivian Idris, an experienced Indonesian producer who is also part of the international festival coordination team, "We are preparing Indonesia's participation in several festivals, including Indonesia becoming the Country of Focus, following the success of the Busan International Film Festival in 2023. We would like to express our gratitude and high appreciation to the Ministry of Education and Culture for their unwavering support and commitment to advancing the Indonesian film industry on the international stage."

With strategic steps and full support for the creative industry, Mahendra explained that the Ministry of Education and Culture strives not only to introduce the cultural richness of Indonesia but also to create new opportunities for Indonesian filmmakers in the global market.
