6 Trailer Excerpts 'MINARI', Korean Immigrant Family Film in Uncle Sam's Country

MINARI begins in the 1980s. Jacob (Steven Yeun) and Monica (Yeri Han) settle in rural America after their lives fail in California. Along with their two children, they hope for a better life. In the midst of their struggles, suddenly the grandmother (Yuh-Jung Youn) appears in this small family and changes many things with her tough yet loving personality.

The problem becomes more complicated when this Korean family also has to face the issue of cultural differences. Another conflict that arises is the stigma of native Americans towards immigrants like them at that time. This drama-themed film is scheduled to be released in South Korea in March 2021.

At the beginning of this film, Jacob brought his wife Monica and their two children, Anne and David, to a rural area in America after failing in California.

Initially, the presence of their grandmother was opposed by Jacob and Monica's youngest son, David. The opposition arose because of the grandmother's strict personality, and David did not want to share a room with her.

The initial idea of bringing Soonja, the grandmother from Korea, was to take care of Jacob and Monica's children while they were busy working. As time passed, David could feel the grandmother's affection.

Problems arose because immigrants like them were looked down upon by the American residents at that time.
