40 Years Career Journey of Bon Jovi, The Reason Richie Sambora's Departure Revealed in 'THANK YOU, GOODNIGHT'

Consisting of 4 parts, this film directed by Gotham Chopra starts with the history of the formation of Bon Jovi in the past '80s. The director invites the audience to reminisce about the past while looking at Bon Jovi in the present.

This documentary reveals many things that have never been publicized before. One of them is the fact that Jon had problems with his vocal cords, which led to criticism of his recent performances.

Being a huge star admired worldwide, then receiving continuous criticism is not easy for Jon Bon Jovi. However, his spirit to continue creating despite his old age became his motivation to finally choose to undergo vocal cord surgery.

1. Want to Leave a Legacy of Work

This documentary reveals Bon Jovi's spirit to continue his career. Jon admits that he is not seeking money and fame from what he is doing now.

"I want to leave a legacy through my works. I don't need popularity or money anymore," he said.

Although his voice condition is not fully recovered and cannot reach high notes, Jon remains determined. "Besides, at the age of 60, I can't reach the same high notes as before (when I was young)," he said with a laugh.

2. Richie Sambora Surprises

The surprise in this documentary is the presence of Richie Sambora. The former guitarist of Bon Jovi appears and reveals the facts about his decision to leave the band that made his name famous.

Richie confirms Jon's statement from a few years ago that there was no quarrel between them. There were no disputes within the band, either between Jon personally or other band members with the guitarist.

"I apologize to all fans and also all my bandmates. I chose to leave because of my personal issues," Richie said.

Richie's departure from Bon Jovi happened very suddenly. He did not attend in the middle of the world tour in 80 cities, making Jon and other members panic because they had to fill Richie's suddenly vacant position.

Richie revealed that when he left the band, his wife, Heather Locklear (now ex-wife), was mentally unwell. At that time, his daughter needed him very much, "And I also needed my daughter very much," Richie said, who eventually decided to go home to take care of Ava, his only daughter.

Although they do not greet each other and exchange news, Jon and Richie affirm that they did not quarrel. Jon stated that Richie chose to leave and not come back.
