Chandra Darusman Collaborates with Dian Sastro to Release Single 'Perjumpaan Kita'

In this single, legendary musician Candra Darusman teams up with Dian Sastrowardoyo. Candra collaborates with a popular figure as his duet partner after previously collaborating with Ardhito Pramono in early 2021.

The song Perjumpaan Kita is one of the latest works by Candra Darusman, an important observer of the importance of Indonesian music copyright as well as an Indonesian musician who continues to work to this day amidst activities related to copyright and professional musician organizations.

This unique duet by Candra and Dian is wrapped in the joyful rhythm of Brazilian samba, the result of pianist Irsa Destiwi's arrangement. In terms of lyrics, this song tells the joy of a meeting between two people. However, in terms of spirit, this song also implies a meeting of two different creative worlds, namely the meeting and synergy of works between Candra Darusman, a musician, and Dian Sastrowardoyo, a film actress.

Their duet also carries a mission to popularize the spirit of creating music, as well as PP 56/2021 regarding Royalty Collection. Dian Sastrowardoyo invited Candra Darusman to pay attention to the copyright of the film world, and this invitation was immediately accepted by Candra, who has been focusing his attention on music and book copyrights.

As an expression of support for the spirit of creating music, they also agreed to donate a portion of the royalties from the song Perjumpaan Kita to efforts to raise public awareness of the importance of complying with copyrights in music and film art, including other art forms, through Pundi Fesmi (Indonesian Music Union Federation), which is also chaired by Candra Darusman.

In the production of this new album and single, Candra Darusman also revealed the challenges faced by musicians and the music community in Indonesia, especially during this pandemic. He feels that there is still much effort and thinking needed to continue pumping the spirit of creativity and artistry.

About her participation in Perjumpaan Kita, Dian hopes that her participation can be one of the realizations of the spirit that Candra Darusman previously expressed.

"It is an honor for me when Oom Candra Darusman - who is one of the living legends of Indonesian music - invited me to collaborate through this song Perjumpaan Kita. At first, I was hesitant to accept the offer, because although I enjoy singing, I am not a professional singer and have no intention of switching professions to become a singer. Finally, I accepted the invitation because through this collaboration, there is one good cause being done, which is popularizing the spirit of creating music and also about Royalty Collection. Hopefully, the spirit of creation from Candra Darusman - including his collaboration with me from a different art field - can be an encouragement for other artists and creators," she said.

Dian Sastrowardoyo also expressed how enjoyable the song Perjumpaan Kita is for her: "I accepted Mas Candra's duet challenge because the song is really good, with a joyful Brazilian rhythm and very suitable for entertaining and encouraging friends who are facing challenging times."

Perjumpaan Kita and Samba Rhythm

The Samba Brasil rhythm was chosen to wrap Perjumpaan Kita because the creation of the song was based on the chord structure and melody written by Candra Darusman, which originated from samba and Brazilian music, which is one of Candra's favorite music genres. We know Candra not only as a senior jazz pianist in Indonesia, but also plays various sub-genres of jazz and pop music.

In realizing the arrangement, Irsa Destiwi, who was appointed as the arranger, chose to present Indonesian musicians from different generations: Oele Pattiselano (guitar), Iwan Wiradz & Revie Pongoh (percussion), Donny Koeswinarno (flute), Odi Purba (bass), Ivan Alidyan (keyboards), Ranya Badudu (Backing vocals), Nikita Dompas (guitar), and Irsa Destiwi herself on the piano.

"Perjumpaan Kita is a new song with poetic but light lyrics and a very catchy and interesting melody - it will be a very refreshing song choice amidst the current trends," Irsa Destiwi shared her views on this song.



Perjumpaan Kita will be part of the recording album titled "Detik Waktu #2 - Perjalanan Karya Cipta Candra Darusman" produced by Signature Music Indonesia. This album is a collection of songs composed by Candra Darusman and is a sequel to the previously released album in 2018, namely "Detik Waktu," which won two AMI Awards, the highest awards in the Indonesian music world in 2018 for "Best Album" and "Best Pop Album."

The album "Detik Waktu #2 - Perjalanan Karya Cipta Candra Darusman" will include several songs composed by Candra Darusman that will be recorded by several Indonesian singers and musicians and is planned to be released by Signature Music Indonesia and distributed by demajors in the second semester of 2021.
