Impression of Being Hasty, Music Observers Say Discussion on Entertainment Tax Increase Should Be Reevaluated

Ryan Kampua, a music observer, believes that this discussion is too hasty. He emphasizes that the government should conduct a study first before presenting this discussion to the public, which seems like it will soon be ratified.

"We see that it seems hasty. Please reevaluate whether it is appropriate," said Ryan Kampua in the Kemang area of South Jakarta, Friday (26/7/2024).

Ryan also highlighted the government's behavior in making policies that often do not consider the right timing.

"Not to mention looking at the behavior of making policies. Sometimes they don’t pay attention to the timing. Ideally, it would be good to see if the timing is appropriate or not," he explained.

"The policy discourse taken by the government is actually good in essence later on," explained Ryan.

He added that in other countries, entertainment excise taxes have already been implemented in several places.

"Because it is still in the form of a study, right? In other countries, entertainment excise taxes already exist in several places," he said.

However, Ryan wants the government, especially the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC), to improve other small matters before making that policy.

"First, tidy up the other tools. Once that is running well and positively, it will have an impact on promoters and also the entertainment industry players," said Ryan.

For your information, the DJBC had previously made a discourse about wanting to increase entertainment excise taxes, one of which is related to concert tickets.

However, recently, the DJBC clarified that there has been no study on that plan. The imposition or addition of excise goods is still just a proposal.
