Initially Just One Song, Dongker Band and Jason Ranti Ended Up Making an Album

The collaboration project between Dongker and Jason Ranti that will give birth to the album I Don’t Know and I Dongker actually has a much simpler backstory. Who would have thought, this album containing nine songs was initially only planned as a single project for one performance.

Arno Zarror, the vocalist and guitarist of Dongker, revealed that the initial idea for this collaboration was to create one song together to be performed at the Tiba-Tiba Festival stage. The original plan was very practical, where Dongker and Jason Ranti would perform their own sets, plus one collaborative song as a special presentation.

"The intention was just to make a single. This was just to create one track with Jeje to be used for the performance at Tiba-Tiba. We were thinking it would be simple since we would have our setlist, Mas Jeje would have his setlist, and there would be one track together," said Arno during a conversation at the Kapanlagi Youniverse office.

However, that simple plan changed completely after they met directly with Jason Ranti. The musician, affectionately called Jeje, turned out to have much higher expectations.

He rejected the idea of performing with a separate set and instead challenged Dongker to create an entire stage set with new songs from their collaboration.

"The desire is to do it that way. It turns out Mas Jeje has high expectations so we have to perform with our songs, not our individual songs, he doesn’t want that. 'Wow!' 'Oh, okay then'," Arno added.

For Dongker, the challenge from their idol is seen as a golden opportunity that should not be wasted. Guitarist Delpi Suhariyanto added that since this is their first full collaboration album, there is a desire to work on it thoroughly and not half-heartedly. Moreover, this opportunity comes directly from Jason Ranti.

"For us, this is a golden opportunity, Sir, because it's the first time. And it's right away with Mas Jeje. First. This is the first. So we want to total it all at once," said Delpi.

The creative process has been flowing since October. From initially just one song, the material kept increasing until it became eight, then nine songs.

Arno even mentioned that the number of songs could continue to increase, considering Jeje's seemingly endless productivity, especially as they will be going on tour together later.

"Initially there were 8, now it's added one more. It could be that there will be more added later, Sir, when we go on tour, because we want to tour too, right? Actually, spending a week with Mas Jeje, who knows, we might have another new song," said Arno.

The album, born from high expectations, was fully released on August 22, 2025. Not only in digital format, Dongker and Jason Ranti also plan to release it in physical forms such as vinyl, cassette, and CD, marking a project that exceeds all initial plans.

"Oh no, the album will be released directly. On the 22nd, that is. Then the physical releases will follow, sir. Vinyl, cassette, and CD," concluded Delpi.
