Yovie Widianto Supports Social Security for Artists and Cultural Workers: Everyone Should Benefit from It

Kapanlagi.com - The struggle of the Indonesian Musicians' Union Federation (FESMI), led by Candra Darusman and now continued by Cholil Mahmud as the Acting Chairman, has yielded extraordinary results. Together with BPJS Employment, FESMI has successfully provided social security to musicians and artists in the music field.

"Everyone should benefit from social security," said Yovie Widianto, Special Staff to the President for Creative Economy and former Chairman of FESMI, when met in Jakarta on Monday (30/12/2024).

This collaboration provides protection to musicians from renowned bands such as Kahitna, RAN, Potret, and HiVi!. They are now officially registered with BPJS Employment through the BPJS Jakarta-Grogol Office.

In addition, good news also comes from the heirs of cultural maestros who have received benefits. The late Almujazi Mulku Zamari from Bau-Bau, Southeast Sulawesi, and the late Jariah from Bungo District, Jambi, are beneficiaries of social security handed over directly by the Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, in Jakarta on December 27, 2024.

“This social security is also a form of state recognition of cultural professions that have equal rights with professions in other fields,” said Fadli Zon.

The President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, praised this initiative as an effort to support the welfare of cultural workers. According to him, this protection will allow cultural maestros to continue creating without worry.

"With more maestros being protected, it is hoped that they can create without anxiety, thus continuing to preserve ancestral culture while also passing it on to younger generations," said Anggoro.

This social security program not only includes Death Benefits (JKM) and Work Accident Insurance (JKK) but also Old Age Security (JHT). The beneficiaries are cultural maestros curated by the Ministry of Culture based on their contributions to preserving regional culture.

Restu Gunawan, Director General of Cultural Protection and Tradition at the Ministry of Culture, mentioned that to date, 90 cultural maestros have received social security benefits through this program. They are selected from the Indonesian Cultural Awards (AKI), Indonesian Music Awards (AMI), and the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI).

"Hopefully, this program continues to bring goodness for all of us and for the industry where we work," said Yovie Widianto with hope.
