Kapanlagi.com - It's no secret, healthcare workers have been at the forefront in handling Covid-19. In fact, they have been dedicating themselves since the first emergence of this pandemic until now.
To appreciate all the sacrifices and dedication that healthcare workers have given during this pandemic, the government gives the highest appreciation and recognition to healthcare workers.
"The sacrifices of energy, time, and all the hard work have been done by healthcare workers, and many have even sacrificed their lives to help others," said the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G.Plate, on Wednesday (4/8/2021).
There is no reward that can match it, Johnny continued, except for the one given by God, the Most Compassionate, for all the sacrifices of healthcare workers. However, he ensured that the government continues to strive to provide the best for healthcare workers, and other parties are also working together to face this pandemic.
According to laporcovid19 data, the number of healthcare workers in Indonesia who died fighting Covid-19 until August 4, 2021, reached 1636. Among them, 598 were doctors, 503 were nurses, and 299 were midwives.
Meanwhile, Dr. Alif Rizqy Soeratman SpB FinaCS, a doctor who has been involved in treating Covid-19 patients since May 2020 until now, said that he has to start keeping a distance from other family members since dealing with Covid-19.
"I only meet my children and pregnant wife once a week to avoid bringing the disease home," said Dr. Alif, who works at Dharmais Cancer Hospital and RSCM in the Cancer Surgery Department.
Dr. Alif added that there are many unforgettable events in dealing with Covid-19. Among them, witnessing Covid-19 patients struggling for their lives in the ICU room. Dr. Alif felt that it was very difficult.
However, he also couldn't forget that in January 2021, Dr. Alif lost his grandmother and mother-in-law, also due to Covid-19. "Seeing their funerals with Covid-19 protocols was very sad," he said.
Similarly, when he witnessed his less financially capable colleagues working hard in exhausting shifts, leaving their families behind.
"I am fortunate enough to have enough financial stability, but I feel sorry for them," he said.
Dr. Alif also admitted that he never imagined this pandemic could happen. "I think it will be the same in the next two years," he said.
Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny, said that the government is trying to protect healthcare workers who are fighting against the pandemic. One of the efforts is by providing a third dose as a booster to healthcare workers using the Moderna vaccine.
"With the third vaccination for healthcare workers, we hope to further protect them," he said.
On that occasion, he also asked the public to refrain from pressuring vaccinators in order to get the third vaccine, especially since there are still many Indonesians who have not received the vaccine.
"The third dose vaccine is currently only intended for healthcare workers," he emphasized.
