8 Portraits of Rieta Amalia Sharing Tips to Be the Ideal Grandmother, Grandchildren Regularly Left at Her House

As the grandmother of famous grandchildren like Rafathar and Rayanza, Rieta Amalia often attracts public attention. Known affectionately as Tita by her grandchildren, Rieta reveals the secret of how she makes her grandchildren feel at home and comfortable with her.

“Oh dear, you should ask my grandchildren. Why doesn’t Tita understand talking about grandchildren? I don’t know, I usually just play with them, whatever they like I follow along,” she said when met recently in the Cipete area, South Jakarta.

According to the 61-year-old woman, she does not spoil her grandchildren excessively. When her grandchildren want something, like toys, Rieta ensures they understand the value of sharing.

"No, actually I don't spoil them. So if I ask, can I buy a toy? I ask if I can buy a toy? One, and they are promised that if they buy one toy, one at home must be given to an orphanage or given to someone. So it's not a barter, it's not a trade. And if it's not allowed to buy, I won't buy it," she revealed.

As a grandmother, Rieta also gives advice with a gentle approach. She chooses not to scold her grandchildren, but to provide understanding when they make mistakes.

"I don't scold them, actually they are not scolded, just told that it's not allowed. For example, jumping on this, the problem is we have to let them know that if they jump on the mattress, they might hurt their feet, it's not about saying they can't do it. So, we give understanding, of course," she explained.

Rieta also talked about the moments when her grandchildren were entrusted to her by her children, including Nagita Slavina. Nevertheless, she always ensures that the decision does not burden her children.

“No, I always offer. It’s okay if they stay with their mom, it’s okay, it’s sad that they have a father and a mother, I always offer. In the past, at the beginning, Gigi was often entrusted when she went out,” she said.

However, that situation has now changed. Rieta revealed that Nagita and Raffi Ahmad are now more independent in taking care of their two children, Rafathar and Rayanza.

“But now it’s different, because they have a younger sibling. So if everyone is entrusted, the older sibling goes to school, when he comes home the younger sibling is entrusted. Rayanza is entrusted, it’s sad that Rafathar has no friends at home, but now they are more independent,” she continued.

Rieta's closeness with her grandchildren is built through simple activities together. For her, the most important thing is to give her grandchildren the freedom to enjoy their childhood, while still providing loving guidance.
