A Long Wait of 17 Years, AHY Calls the Birth of His Second Child an Extraordinary Miracle

After 17 years only accompanied by their eldest daughter, the couple Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) and Annisa Pohan have officially become parents again to a newborn baby. The birth of their second son is felt as an immeasurable blessing after going through a long journey of effort.

The significant age gap between Almira and her younger brother made the emotional atmosphere even more palpable at Pondok Indah Hospital. AHY shared that the journey to having a second child was filled with sacrifices and prayers that have been offered over the past dozen years.

For them, the arrival of this baby boy is not just an addition to the family, but a response to their patience. AHY appeared very grateful while recounting his wife's relentless struggle.

"Of course, we are very grateful to Allah SWT, the Almighty God, who has bestowed such an extraordinary gift, which for us is a miracle," said Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono when met by KapanLagi at Pondok Indah Hospital, South Jakarta, on Monday (30/3/2026).

"Moreover, this is a long wait, an extraordinary effort, especially as this is the fruit of prayers, endeavors, struggles, and sacrifices of our beloved wife, Annisa, who has been striving alongside me for quite some time," he continued.

AHY also recalled the memory of the birth of his first child in the same place many years ago. He compared that situation with the advancements in the medical world that he experienced during the birth of his second child today.

"Almira was also born in this Pondok Indah Hospital, 17 years ago, precisely on August 17, 2008. Of course, a historic day for Indonesia, Independence Day. And exactly on that August 17, we welcomed the then President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. SBY, along with the late Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono, who was the First Lady at that time," he reminisced.

Although he felt a bit awkward returning to take care of a baby, AHY remained optimistic because he was supported by a professional medical team. He felt he needed to learn a lot again about how to care for a newborn after such a long time without doing it.

"Indeed, 17 years is not a short time. It feels like when we talk, there’s a lot we’ve forgotten. 'What did we do back then? What was it like?'. In the end, we also have to be more diligent in reading literature again so we don’t make mistakes. But clearly, for us, this feels like the first time," he said.

The arrival of their first son has completed the happiness of their small family. Now, Almira is also ready to take on her role as a sister to baby Arjuna.

"Of course, he was very surprised to hear the news that, God willing, he will have a real younger sibling this time. And with such a large age gap, he can be a big brother who helps me and Annisa take care of the baby, because he is becoming more mature," concluded AHY.
