Ammar Zoni Denies Allegations of Providing Capital for Drug Trafficking

Kapanlagi.com - The West Jakarta District Court held another narcotics trial with the defendant Ammar Zoni on Tuesday (23/7). This session was scheduled for the reading of the plea or defense note from Ammar Zoni.

In his plea, Ammar Zoni, through his attorney Jon Mathias, denied the allegations made by the Public Prosecutor (JPU). The JPU charged Ammar with a 12-year prison sentence for allegedly being involved in drug trafficking, specifically for providing capital to Akri Ohakai to sell the illegal goods.

"Your Honor, we deny all the allegations from the JPU regarding Ammar's involvement in drug trafficking, including the allegation of providing capital to witness Akri," said Jon Mathias during the reading of the plea.

1. No Strong Evidence

He emphasized that there is no strong evidence to support the allegations. Jon also stated that the appointment of Akri as a crown witness by the public prosecutor was a wrong step and not permitted in the trial.

This is because Akri himself is also a defendant in the same case of possession and abuse of narcotics as Ammar. After the hearing, Jon Mathias explained that the evidence of money transfers between Ammar Zoni and Akri Ohakai cannot be used as a basis to conclude that Ammar is involved in drug trafficking.

"There is no clear evidence regarding the use of that money. It is possible that Ammar provided capital to Akri for another business, such as a cendol business, and there is no written agreement," he said.

2. Request for Rehabilitation

Jon Mathias feels that the public prosecutor's allegations stating that Ammar is involved in drug trafficking have no strong basis. Therefore, he requests the judge to dismiss the charges and consider a rehabilitation sentence for Ammar, who is regarded as an addict.

"Because the allegations are weak, we ask the judge to impose a sentence of rehabilitation for Ammar. Ammar is an addict," concluded Jon Mathias.
