Difficulty Meeting the Children, Ruben Onsu Reports Access Issues to KPAI

The issue of access to meet the children following the divorce of Ruben Onsu and Sarwendah is now a concern for the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI). Through his attorney, Minola Sebayang, Ruben reported the alleged failure to fulfill his right to spend time with his two daughters, Thalia and Thania.

According to Minola, in Deed Number 39 agreed upon during the divorce process, it was stipulated that Ruben has the right to spend time with his children for two to three days each week. However, this agreement is said to not have been implemented as it should be.

"The first point is the child's right to meet with their parents. Even though there has been a divorce between the father and mother, there are no ex-fathers and no ex-mothers, and there are no ex-children. Therefore, the child still has the right to gather without any obstacles with their father," said Minola Sebayang at the KPAI office in Central Jakarta on Monday (22/6/2026).

Minola stated that they have shown documents related to the agreement to KPAI as part of the report submitted. According to him, Ruben's right to spend two to three days a week with his children has not been fully realized.

"There are rules that are indeed written, regulating and agreed upon that the children gather with their father for two to three days a week. So it's not just meeting, but gathering for two or three days with their father. This is what has not been realized," he explained.

Furthermore, Minola revealed that every time Ruben's side attempts to discuss the issue, the conversation often shifts to other topics that are considered unrelated to the children's rights.

"This is what we always demand, but other issues keep coming up. Issues related to debt collectors arise, issues about the house come up, issues about taking perfume appear. The rights that should be addressed for two to three days are completely untouched," said Minola.

Meanwhile, Ruben emphasized that his purpose for coming to KPAI was solely to discuss the interests of the children. He hopes that the issues at hand can be resolved by prioritizing the rights and the growth and development of Thalia and Thania.

"Because this is the Child Protection Commission, of course we discuss children. So all matters related to children's issues, what are children's rights, what constitutes violations of children's rights, we convey that," said Ruben.
