Kapanlagi.com - For the past few months, sound horeg has been a hot topic due to the pros and cons it has generated. Many support it, but there are also many critics. The East Java MUI has even issued a fatwa declaring sound horeg haram.

One of those who has spoken out about sound horeg is Doctor Meyrna Heryaning Putri, Sp. T.H.T.K.LL, a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine at Brawijaya University and an ENT specialist at Syaiful Anwar Hospital - Malang.

In her interview with KapanLagi at KapanLagi Talk, Doctor Meyrna stated that exposure to noise does not directly eliminate hearing ability, nor does sound horeg.

1. Symptoms of Hearing Disorders

"The problem is just a sound issue, right? So whatever it is, if we experience exposure to noise, the first complaint may not be directly about hearing loss or a decrease in hearing," she said.

"But actually, if at first we complain that our ears suddenly feel blocked or clogged, that can also be an early symptom of hearing disorder," added Dr. Meyrna.

This symptom is often not realized even though there has already been a shift in hearing threshold.

2. Could Be Permanent

"Well, often people are not aware of this and think, 'ah, it’s nothing'. In fact, what has happened is what we call a Temporary Threshold Shift (TTS), so there has already been a shift in hearing threshold," she explained.

This symptom is temporary, so hearing can return to normal. However, everyone must remain cautious so that the symptom does not become permanent.

3. Experiencing Damage

"Well, but we have to be careful, we have to think about it because if there is something temporary, there will definitely be something permanent. Now, this permanent one is what we really have to take care of, because if it's temporary it can go back, but if it's permanent it can't go back," she stated.

A ringing sound and a feeling of blockage in the ear can persist as a sign of damage.

"If that sound persists, if the ringing persists, that is actually a symptom that our ear has already experienced damage," concluded Doctor Meyrna.
