Citra Scholastika Almost Canceled Singing the Soundtrack 'CHURCH OF THE DEVIL', Faced Opposition from Her Mother

Being involved in a film project with a provocative title like CHURCH OF THE DEVIL is certainly not an easy decision. This is what the singer Citra Scholastika felt, as she almost canceled singing the theme song for the film due to deep concerns from her mother.

This story was revealed by the 31-year-old singer when she was met during the poster launch of the film CHURCH OF THE DEVIL in the SCBD area, South Jakarta, on Monday (28/7/2025). She admitted that her biggest challenge was not the technical vocal aspects, but convincing her family, especially her mother.

Initially, Citra thought this project was just an ordinary spiritual film. The first person to contact her was her regular spiritual song composer. She had no idea she would be involved in a horror film based on the true story of comedian Mongol Stres.

"And I think, I will act in a movie related to spirituality, you know. Whether acting or singing," said Citra.

However, all her expectations changed drastically when she was told the title of the film. Her first reaction was not enthusiasm, but doubt and thinking about asking for permission first from her parents.

"But when I was told, the film's title is 'Gereja Setan' (Church of Satan). Wow, I was like, should I ask for permission first from my mom?" she recalled while laughing.

Sure enough, that worry became a reality. Her mother immediately showed strong rejection upon hearing that her daughter would be involved in a project with such a sensitive title. Her mother was afraid Citra would fall into a misguided sect as depicted in the film.

"And when I told my mom, she immediately said something like, 'Wow, don't, I'm afraid you'll end up in a misguided cult like that,'" said Citra, mimicking her mother's words.

Faced with that challenge, the singer of the song Everybody Knew did not give up. She took on the role of 'ambassador' for the film to her own family. Patiently, she explained in detail that the film actually aims to combat misguided beliefs, not promote them.

"So in the end, I had to explain in more detail. I told them that the film is indeed about the Church of Satan, but the hope is that when people watch it, they won't get lost, you know," she explained.

In the end, after a long and convincing explanation, the mother relented and gave her blessing. Citra's personal experience seems to reflect the mission of the film GEREJA SETAN itself, which is to combat misunderstandings and provide enlightenment about the dangers of heretical teachings.
