Grahadi Building Set on Fire by Masses, Emil Dardak's Office Burned

On Saturday (30/8) night, the Grahadi Building was reported to be set on fire by the masses. Emil Dardak's office was not spared from the incident.

The masses involved in the demonstration burned the Grahadi State Building in Surabaya on the west side around 10:00 PM WIB. The demonstrations around Grahadi voiced demands regarding the incident of the death of Affan Kurniawan, an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver who was run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle in Jakarta on Thursday night.

This incident of the fire on the west side of the Grahadi Building also burned down the office of the Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Dardak.

The residence of DPR member from PAN, Eko Hendro Purnomo alias Eko Patrio, in Kuningan, Jakarta, became the target of a mob's wrath on Saturday (30/8/2025) night. Hundreds of people came repeatedly until they finally entered the house and looted its contents.

Heri, a security officer in the complex, explained that since 21:00 WIB, the crowd had already been gathering around the location. The situation became increasingly difficult to control because the number of people who came was far greater than the security personnel on duty.

"So last night the crowd had started gathering since 21:00 WIB. By 21:00, they had started to arrive, and maybe around 22:00 or later, the crowd began to push into the house because the defense from the military and our security was also limited. But because the crowd was larger, yes, hundreds more than that, the first wave was. Yes, the crowd pushed into Mr. Eko's residence," said Heri when met on Sunday (31/8/2025).

Uya Kuya's house looks deserted after the looting. A family photo frame can be seen lying in front of the house. Meanwhile, various items are scattered in the front yard with spray paint visible on several sides of the house walls.

5. Chronology of the Grahadi Building Fire

According to the information received, the fire started from the actions of a crowd that set fire to the press room of the Grahadi Building. The crowd threw various hard objects and also some molotov cocktails, which created a blaze.

The press room, located at the left side gate, is adjacent to SMA Tri Murti.

"Usually used as a parking area for journalists' motorcycles, it got burned, sir," said one resident who witnessed the incident.

Before the fire, the crowd was met by East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa along with the Commander of the V/Brawijaya Regional Military Command.

Monitoring by Liputan6 at the location only showed TNI personnel guarding the area, while police were completely absent.
