Happy Salma Disappointed Nadiem Makarim Sentenced to 10 Years

The reading of the verdict against Nadiem Makarim in the case of alleged corruption in the procurement of Chromebooks at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (30/6/2026) left sorrow for family and friends. One public figure who was present from the beginning to the end of the trial was actress Happy Salma.

The wife of Tjokorda Bagus Dwi Santana Kerthyasa expressed her shock after hearing the judges sentenced Nadiem Makarim to 10 years in prison, along with a fine of Rp1 billion. According to Happy, the verdict became a very heavy moment because her relationship with Nadiem and his wife, Franka Franklin, has developed like a family of their own.

Happy admitted that for almost the past year she has been closely following the legal process experienced by the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. For her, being present in the courtroom was not just a form of support as a friend, but also an effort to provide moral strength for Nadiem's family.

"Yes, and it will be extended by another 5 years if he cannot pay the fine. Of course, it's sad and disappointing. Nadiem and Franka are like siblings to me; they are my friends. Their children are like my own, and vice versa. So from the beginning, when they faced this trial, I as a friend could only pray, support, be present, and provide spiritual strength," said Happy Salma.

Despite being disappointed with the verdict, Happy believes that Nadiem's struggle is not over. She believes there are still legal avenues to pursue for justice. According to her, throughout the trial, Nadiem remained steadfast and tried to defend himself in a dignified manner

"I am proud, no matter what, for almost a year facing various accusations, Nadiem has maintained his dignity and tried to defend himself very well. However, in the process, today's verdict has indeed made us disappointed and sad," she revealed.

Happy also dismissed the assumption that the presence of several artists in the courtroom was the result of certain coordination. He emphasized that the support given by all friends arose naturally due to each person's concern for Nadiem.

"To be moved to support someone, there is no one who instructs. Support must come from each person's heart, from within ourselves. Giving support, backing, or real action cannot be forced," he said.

The 46-year-old artist added that the lengthy trial process made him increasingly understand the weight of someone's struggle when seeking justice. He even admitted to shedding tears because he could not bear to see the sadness felt by his friend's family.

"Yes, of course. After all, they are human; when we see someone crying and sad, our hearts, which have feelings, will surely be touched. Such things are not fabricated. When everyone is sad and mourning, we certainly feel moved as well. That's how it feels, especially since we know the person well," said Happy.

In the midst of this situation, Happy expressed that he still respects those who choose to serve in the government. However, the experiences that Nadiem went through made him even more convinced to continue contributing to the nation through the path he masters as an artist.

"Nadiem has said many times, 'I do not regret being a minister, I do not regret loving this nation.' Well, hopefully, that love is not one-sided. For me personally, I really admire those who dare to be in bureaucracy and the like. However, to be honest, I myself do not dare. Even though I do not dare to enter that realm, it does not mean I will stop doing what I can for this nation, which is through my profession as an artist," concluded Happy Salma.
