"The next trial is the verdict. Therefore, the verdict will be announced on Thursday, November 5, at 1:30 PM," said Chief Judge Setyanto Hermawan after hearing the rebuttal from Vanessa Angel, today, Monday (2/10).

Hearing that, Vanessa Angel, accompanied by her husband, Bibi Ardiansyah, left the courtroom without saying a single word to the media.

Meanwhile, Kemal Maruszama, Vanessa Angel's lawyer, welcomes the scheduled verdict for his client that will be read this week. "We also want it to be quick so that we can have legal certainty," he said.

Kemal hopes that during the verdict hearing, the panel of judges will consider Vanessa Angel's plea not to be separated from her child. So that the panel of judges will deliver a verdict of acquittal for his client.

"We want my client to be free and not be separated from her child and husband. Her child is only three months old, so what if her mother is in prison. It's pitiful, especially during this Covid-19 season," he said.

2. Vanessa's Anxiety Disorder

Furthermore, Kemal also hopes that the panel of judges will consider his client's condition, who has an anxiety disorder when buying Xanax pills at a pharmacy in Surabaya. "The basis is that Vanessa has an illness, so from a humanitarian perspective, what can you expect from a sick person. She didn't get it from a drug dealer or anything, but from a pharmacy. The administration was indeed wrong," he said.

3. Chronology of Vanessa's Case

As it is known, the police arrested Vanessa at her residence, Permata Mediterania, Kembangan, West Jakarta, on March 16, 2020. At that time, the police successfully seized 20 Xanax pills from Vanessa's residence, 15 pills in the dressing table drawer of Vanessa's room and another 5 pills in Vanessa's bag inside the car.

During the indictment hearing, the public prosecutor demanded a six-month prison sentence and a fine of Rp10 million or a three-month prison sentence. The prosecutor considered Vanessa proven guilty of drug abuse related to the possession of 20 Xanax pills found in her residence.
