Meeting on July 11 Canceled, Ruben Onsu's Legal Counsel Responds to Sarwendah's Decision

Kapanlagi.com - The planned meeting between Ruben Onsu and Sarwendah scheduled for July 11, 2026, has been officially canceled. The cancellation was made by Sarwendah's side after Ruben filed for child custody at the South Jakarta District Court.

In response to this, Ruben Onsu's legal counsel, Minola Sebayang, asserted that they do not have an issue with this decision. According to him, the cancellation did not come from Ruben's side, so there is no reason for them to feel disappointed.

"They are the ones who canceled. It was not from Ruben Onsu's side, it was not from the brother's side that canceled. So why feel disappointed?" said Minola Sebayang when met in Jakarta through a virtual interview, Friday (3/7/2026).

Minola explained that the child custody lawsuit should not be a reason to cancel the previously planned meeting. According to him, the legal process and family resolution efforts can still proceed side by side.

"So it should be fine for the meeting on the 11th to go ahead. Each party is free to determine the steps they will take in order to defend their custody rights," said Minola.

He also questioned the reasons behind Sarwendah's decision to cancel the meeting. According to him, if the meeting was indeed intended as an effort to find a solution, the agenda should still be carried out even though the legal process is ongoing.

"If they think that a joint meeting is one way to resolve this issue, then go ahead. Why must they back out like that," he stated.

2. Initially Hoped to Be a Peace Effort

For Ruben Onsu, the out-of-court meeting was initially hoped to be one of the efforts to reach a peaceful agreement. However, since Sarwendah's party chose to leave the discussions to the mediation process in court, Ruben's side stated that they would follow the applicable legal mechanisms.

"It's just because there's a custody lawsuit, you know. And they also canceled it. We still affirm our commitment to hold the meeting on the 11th," Minola asserted.
