Monty Tiwa Reveals His Last Shooting Moment with Joshua Pandelaki in 'MENDADAK DANGDUT'

The film MENDADAK DANGDUT became an emotional moment for Monty Tiwa and the entire production team. This project became the last work of the late Joshua Pandelaki before he passed away on December 7, 2024. "This is why for the release of MENDADAK DANGDUT, we all have mixed emotions involved here," said Monty Tiwa at XXI Plaza Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (4/9/2025).

As a director, Monty Tiwa felt both happiness and sadness as his film was about to be screened in theaters. On one hand, he was proud of the work that would soon be enjoyed by the public, but on the other hand, Joshua's departure left sorrow. "On one hand, we are happy that our work is finally being born again, but on the other hand, we have lost one of the great actors in Indonesia. This is Mr. Josh's last film," he revealed.

The film is scheduled to premiere on April 30, 2025, and it will be a memorable project for all parties involved. The character Naya, played by Anya, became one of the main attractions, supported by other big names. "And that's why I told all my friends, whatever the outcome, let’s talk about it, let’s go all out because let’s do this all to remember the late Uncle Josh," Monty explained.

Joshua was known as an actor who always gave his all in every job, including during the filming of this movie. Even when his health declined, he continued to show up with full spirit and high professionalism. "Because he truly deserves to have a last film that is remembered by many people," Monty said. Let's check it out in full! If not now, when else?

Monty also shared how Joshua continued to show high dedication even while recovering. He was one of the most disciplined during the shooting. "Om Josh in my memory in the film when we were shooting MENDADAK DANGDUT might be like many friends who already know his work in the film industry," he said.

Joshua's condition, which had him hospitalized, did not diminish his determination to return to the shooting location. He even became the most consistent figure in maintaining energy and mood among the exhausted crew.

"He was the first person to show professionalism in the midst of a shooting atmosphere that could be chaotic, tiring, and at that time he was already experiencing illnesses because a year before the shooting I knew very well he was hospitalized," said Monty.

Monty clearly remembers the moment when Joshua could not participate in shooting another series because he was hospitalized for quite a long time. At that time, the production team had to find a replacement because his condition was not yet allowing.

"How did I know? Because at that time we were producing a series that we also asked Om Josh, but he was hospitalized and it was quite a long time, about almost a month or more," he said.

Even so, when the process of Sudden Dangdut began, Joshua was once again trusted to play one of the important characters. Initially, Monty had some doubts, but Joshua's confidence erased all those concerns.

"When SUDDEN DANGDUT was about to be produced, Ivo, our casting manager, came to me and said, 'Sir, how about having Uncle Joshua Pandelaki for your character?" he recalled.

Joshua's dedication was clearly visible during the shooting, even Monty admitted he was ready to ease Joshua's work schedule. But it turned out, Joshua was the strongest mentally among all the crew. "The very first thing that came out of my mouth was, 'is this serious? He just got sick, right?'" he said.

This film became more emotional because the final dubbing process was done by Joshua just a few days before his passing. He completed his work thoroughly, then passed away a week later.

"And one of my deepest wishes is that later, friends, when watching MENDADAK DANGDUT, this is our last film to remember one of Indonesia's great actors, Joshua Pandelaki," concluded Monty.
