Olla Ramlan Reveals Shooting Challenges of Walid Season 2 in Malaysia, Difficulties with Malay Language

Joining the production of the Malaysian series makes Olla Ramlan have to deal with language barriers. In the series Walid Season 2, Olla is the only cast member from Indonesia amidst the entire crew and actors using the Malay language. She admits this has been a particular challenge, especially when it comes to memorizing long dialogues.

Olla recounts that initially she often felt confused when her colleagues held discussions or gave directions in Malay. She frequently had to ask for explanations again to avoid misunderstandings when the camera started recording the scenes.

"The second challenge is that I am the only one from Indonesia, so everybody speaks all the Malaysian languages, Malay right? So when they are briefing before shooting, 'Okay guys, I will repeat in Indonesian,' I just say that," said Olla Ramlan in the Senayan area, Thursday (26/2/2026).

The issue of dialogue becomes increasingly complicated when the director provides a script with quite long dialogues. Olla feels that the script in Malaysian language is not suitable if spoken as it is by her character. As a result, she has to ask her manager for help to translate the script into Indonesian so that it is easier to understand.

"And the most challenging part for me is that they gave it in Malaysian language. So I have to... my manager is asked to translate it into Indonesian. I said 'No, this is wrong,' so I changed it again and wrote it. So I wrote it to be really... yes, but that actually makes it easier for Kak Olla to delve deeper into her role, doesn’t it?" she explained.

Although it was difficult, Olla feels that the process of changing the dialogue actually helped her to better immerse herself in the character she played. She wants the dialogue she speaks to feel natural but still have a strong meaning. Her hard work paid off because the producer and director were satisfied with her ability to memorize the dialogue quickly.

"Plus the director knows that I can memorize, the producer knows I can... they immediately gave me long dialogues, masyaallah. So it seems like the audience and netizens nowadays are also quite smart, hopefully, it will be successful," she said.

Olla also appreciates the opportunity given to her by Viu Malaysia. For her, the language difference is not a barrier to producing quality work. She feels proud to represent Indonesia in this prestigious collaboration project in the Southeast Asian region.

"So what I mean here is thank you to Viu, Viu Indonesia, Viu Malaysia for this amazing opportunity for me because I really appreciate it as this is something different," concluded Olla Ramlan.
