Due to its sudden nature, no special preparations were made. Putra mentioned that Raisa came only to confirm that she indeed filed for divorce. The process in the courtroom went quickly and efficiently.

"That's why as soon as the concerned party was willing to attend, I reported, and then the hearing was immediately opened," he added.

Putra also explained that he deliberately did not ask Raisa many questions about matters outside the trial. He was mindful of his client's feelings, who had just lost a parent. The main focus today was solely to fulfill court procedures so as not to hinder the legal process.

"So today's hearing was already scheduled, I had no coordination about whether to attend or not. But then I was informed, so I just attended," Putra explained.

"Finally it’s over, now I’m going home," she said.

However, according to legal procedure, if the defendant continues to be absent after being duly summoned, the possibility of a Default Verdict could occur.

"If at the time of the verdict the concerned party is also not present, then it means it becomes a Default Verdict. But this goes back to the Honorable Panel of Judges who examine and adjudicate," he explained.

5. What is Verstek?

Verstek is a ruling made by the court when the defendant is absent from the hearing, even though they have been officially and legally summoned. Thus, the hearing proceeds without the presence of the defendant, and the judge decides the case solely based on the statements and evidence from the plaintiff. In simple terms, verstek occurs when someone is deemed to have lost or not defended themselves due to their absence from the hearing. However, the absent party still has the opportunity to file an objection through a mechanism called verzet within a certain period after the ruling is read.

6. Continue Communicating with Hamish

Although Hamish did not attend, Putra ensures that communication regarding the hearing schedule is maintained. His party frequently checks whether the summons has reached Hamish or not. This is done so that there is no excuse of ignorance regarding the schedule from the defendant's side.

"Nevertheless, occasionally I do communicate with the defendant's side, but that is only to confirm whether the summons has indeed been received," said Putra.
