Kapanlagi.com - The case of alleged abuse against Karina Ranau, the wife of the late actor Epy Kusnandar, has officially escalated to the investigation stage. The police made this decision after a case presentation at Pancoran Police Station, South Jakarta.
"Yes, Alhamdulillah, the results of the case presentation are in line with our expectations. The case will proceed, and it is now in the investigation stage. It has moved to the investigative phase, so we request that Pancoran Police Station immediately send the SPDP to the Prosecutor's Office," said Hendro Widodo, Karina Ranau's legal counsel, when met at Pancoran Police Station, South Jakarta, Wednesday (29/7/2026).
"We ask the public and our media friends to continue to monitor this legal process so that our client receives justice," he added.
According to the legal counsel, the elevation of the case status to investigation was taken after the case title was presented by the investigator. Hendro stated that this process serves as the basis for the case to continue to the next stage.
In his statement, Hendro also requested that the Pancoran Police Station immediately send the Notification Letter of Commencement of Investigation (SPDP) to the Prosecutor's Office as an administrative follow-up after the case escalated to an investigation.
This statement was made by Hendro at the Pancoran Police Station, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/7/2026), shortly after the case title presentation was completed.
The decision to elevate the case status is based on the evidence that has been examined by the investigator. Hendro mentioned that there are witness statements and other evidence attached to the file.
"So in the case title process earlier, we also legally explained that there are four witnesses who have been examined. Then there is CCTV recording evidence, and one more is the autopsy result. It is stated in the autopsy result that there was mild violence," explained Hendro.
This series of evidence is what was considered in the case title presentation, leading to the report being continued to the investigation stage by the Pancoran Police investigators.
Although the case has escalated and the reported person is a suspect, the investigator did not carry out an arrest. The reported person is required to report during the legal process.
"No, maybe it's mandatory reporting," said Hendro.
This decision has caused disappointment from the reporter's side. "Disappointed, of course disappointed. We wanted the reported person to be detained. But again, all of that is the investigator's right. We can only request, but the decision is entirely in the hands of the investigator, like that," concluded Hendro.
