TPU Tanah Kusir is one of the public cemeteries that serves as the final resting place for many public figures. Several artists and officials are buried there. This year, it has been observed that visitors are not as numerous as last year. This was revealed by Sobari, the Head of TPU Tanah Kusir, to KapanLagi. Here are the details.
"From our observations, the pilgrimage to graves (during) Ramadan up to the day of Eid this year is not as crowded as last year. This might be because the Eid holiday this year is also long, so visitors have divided their time, with many options available. Last year, it was overflowing for 1-2 days," he stated when met at TPU Tanah Kusir recently.
Apart from the tradition of visiting graves during the Holy Month, Sobari emphasized that visitors still come on regular days, especially from Thursday to Saturday morning.
"Usually, the visitors come more frequently on Friday. Some believe that after the Azhar prayer, the deceased (soul) returns home," he explained.
"If we usually recite (Quran), they say that the deceased (soul) comes home, if not on Thursday evening, then all day Friday, and Saturday morning too, because if (Saturday) after noon, they have returned (to the grave)," added Sobari.
The Tanah Kusir cemetery covers an area of 52 hectares. Sobari even referred to the Tanah Kusir cemetery as a barometer for South Jakarta. In addition, figures from various backgrounds are also buried here.
"Here, everything is available, public figures, leaders, fighters, there is also a President, the President of the Republic of Indonesia. There is a president who is not in history. When Bung Karno and Bung Hatta were exiled, he became President. There is also Buya Hamka. Figures, Governors, everything is complete," said Sobari.
It is no surprise that there are 90 personnel ready to maintain and care for it every day. "Continuously, we carry out the maintenance of cleanliness. Here, there are about 90 personnel divided into several units, to maintain cleanliness and service," he said.
Furthermore, Sobari mentioned that the families of public figures tend to follow the existing burial standards rather than making special requests. Nevertheless, the Tanah Kusir Cemetery still accommodates special requests as seen in the grave of Didi Petet.
"The most important thing is communication from the family. If the family has personal desires, it can be discussed, later we will provide input. Even the late Didi Petet did not want his name to be included. The gravestone is just a regular box," he added.
Sobari also mentioned TPU Tanah Kusir as part of history because not only public figures, but there are also fighters and figures buried there. It's no wonder that occasionally school children visit to learn about history.
