Trial Still Ongoing, Jeff Smith Faces 6 Months in Prison or Drug Rehabilitation

Kapanlagi.com - Actor Jeff Smith is sentenced to six months in prison and/or six months of rehabilitation for drug abuse by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) in a trial held at the West Jakarta District Court on Thursday (19/8/2021). The owner of the real name Mark Jeffrey Smith was found guilty of using marijuana drugs on himself.

In this prosecution trial, Jeff Smith's mother, Areistiani, as well as Aisyah Aqilah and her mother, were present. Jeff Smith's mother and girlfriend were seen sitting calmly while listening to the JPU reading the indictment.

"Demanding that the West Jakarta District Court judge, one, declare that Jeff Smith is legally guilty of committing a crime of using narcotic drugs of category 1 on himself as charged," the JPU read the indictment.

"Two, impose a sentence on the defendant of 6 months in prison, reduced by the defendant's detention period, and order the defendant to undergo treatment and rehabilitation for 6 months at BNN Lido," the JPU continued.

These two demands are alternative punishments that are reduced by Jeff Smith's detention period. The West Jakarta District Court judge will decide whether Aisyah Aqilah's lover will be rehabilitated or imprisoned.

1. Charged with Alternative Article

Jeff Smith is charged with alternative article, Article 111 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Law No. 35 Year 2009 regarding Narcotics and/or Article 127 paragraph (1) letter a of the Indonesian Law No. 35 Year 2009.

As known, Jeff Smith was arrested by the West Jakarta Police in the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta on Thursday (15/4/2021) at 03.00 AM. The evidence of Jeff Smith's arrest is marijuana, based on urine tests, Jeff Smith was also tested positive for marijuana use.

2. Jeff Smith Expresses His Opinion About Marijuana

Jeff Smith made a surprising statement in the midst of his release at the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police. Feeling not guilty, he expressed his opinion about marijuana.

"Marijuana should not be categorized as a class one narcotic, and Indonesia should conduct research as soon as possible," said Jeff Smith at the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police, today (19/8).

The atmosphere immediately became chaotic upon hearing Jeff Smith's statement. Even the accompanying police officer immediately patted the shoulder of this 23-year-old man and asked him not to continue his statement.
