Unauthorized Commercialization, Warkop DKI Institution Wants Warkopi to Apologize Directly

Kapanlagi.com - In recent weeks, the presence of three young men who are part of Warkopi has attracted public attention. This is because Sepriadi, Dimas, and Alfin identify themselves as similar to the Indonesian comedy legends Dono, Kasino, and Indro.

The problem that arose was that Warkopi commercialized themselves by creating sketches on YouTube and appearing on television shows. This was considered inappropriate because they had not obtained permission from the Warung Kopi Dono Kasino Indro Institution, which consists of the children of Warkop DKI members.

After being widely discussed and even subjected to bullying by netizens, Warkopi and Patria TV, as the management overseeing them, publicly apologized. However, this was considered insufficient as they should have apologized directly to the Warkop DKI Institution.

"After the press conference, Warkop DKI has been monitoring the progress of Warkopi. We appreciate the apology from the management and Warkopi, but we regret that the apology was not made directly," said Satrio Sarwo Trengginas, the son of the late Dono, in a virtual press conference on Wednesday (10/6/2021).

1. Has Not Requested Permission from Warkop DKI Institution

On that occasion, Satrio also stated that Warkopi and management have never directly requested permission. As previously explained in the virtual press conference, Warkopi provided no satisfactory answers to the Warkop DKI Institution when communicating via email.

"We affirm that Warkopi and management have never requested permission from the Warkop DKI Institution. Neither before nor during the email we received on September 10th, nor in the response email dated September 17th," Satrio continued.

Furthermore, the Warkop DKI Institution explicitly does not permit the commercialization of the Warkop DKI brand in any form, considering that the trademark has already been registered as its intellectual property.

"The Warkop DKI Institution remains consistent with the previously conveyed principles. Commercial activities in any form cannot be conducted without the permission of the Warkop DKI Institution. This is also our professional responsibility under the exclusive agreement with PT Falcon," Satrio concluded.
