Kapanlagi.com - The talented young singer Olivia Rodrigo took decisive action to remove the song DEJA VU from the TikTok platform. This action was taken in response to Donald Trump's campaign team unilaterally using her work in a political propaganda video following his victory in the United States presidential election.
The controversy began when former President Trump's campaign team uploaded a TikTok video with the caption, "And suddenly the phrase 'I am the Chosen President' slipped from my lips...," according to NME sources cited on Sunday (10/11/2024).
The song seemed to be chosen to illustrate a metaphor regarding the possibility of Trump's second term, which is claimed to be imminent. However, this unauthorized use sparked a storm of protests from the song's creator, who is indeed known to ideologically oppose Trump. So, what does Olivia Rodrigo say about the withdrawal of this song? Let's check out her explanation below.

The Gen Z pop star known for her phenomenal debut album SOUR has taken a stand regarding the use of her work. As a public figure who has been vocal in supporting reproductive rights and progressive values, Olivia Rodrigo felt offended to see her work used as a campaign tool by a group that ideologically opposes the principles she advocates for.
On the other hand, she expressed her anger through sharp comments that were posted directly under the campaign video, asking for her work to not be used again.
"Disgusting, never use my song again, thank you," wrote the 21-year-old singer in a tone that clearly expressed her displeasure.
Not stopping at just commenting, Olivia took decisive action by revoking the rights to use her song from the campaign video. The result can be seen today; although the Trump campaign video is still airing on TikTok, it is now without accompanying music.
Olivia Rodrigo's concern for social issues does not stop at just songs and public statements. Earlier this year, alongside the world tour of her album GUTS, this talented young singer launched a movement called The Fund 4 Good. This step was taken as part of a larger initiative aimed at becoming a community for women who need access and freedom regarding reproductive health.
The consistency of this singer's stance is also clearly evident in her defense of reproductive rights, which is reflected in her political choices. As the presidential election approaches, she openly expressed her support for Kamala Harris, who stands in opposition to Donald Trump in views on reproductive rights.
In addition, she is not hesitant to criticize policies that she deems harmful to women. One of the most significant moments was when she expressed her deep disappointment over the controversial decision of the United States Supreme Court in 2022, which overturned the legal basis of Roe v. Wade.
"Our bodies should not be objects of regulation by politicians. I invite all of us to speak out, to defend the fundamental right to safe abortion access. This is the legacy of the struggle from the generations before us who have fought tirelessly," Olivia Rodrigo stated emphatically.
So, KLovers, what do you think? Write in the comments, okay? And make sure to keep up with the latest news from KapanLagi. If not now, when?
